Another Male Humpback Singing His Heart Out. After listening to this it becomes more obvious just how far such sounds can travel underwater. One sobering observation is that with most (perhaps all?) whales using sound to communicate or use it for echolocation like sperm whales, sounds made by ships and submarines and explosives must really cause significant stress for cetaceans. This is a #repost from @jemcresswell via @PhotoAroundApp Please watch with sound! Just wanted to post this one last time before I go onto showing some other things I have been working on. This is a completely raw unedited, ungraded clip diving down to observe a male humpback singing incredibly loud. The deep tones were vibrating my whole body, especially my chest & I could also feel them through my camera. Only the male humpback whales sing these complex songs. Its interesting to note there are 11 populations of humpback whales around the world, each covering their own area. All the males in each population will sing the same song, which continually evolves, collectively & totally in sync... #giants #humpbackwhale #whale #whalesong #ocean #underwater #HumpbackWhaleSong #HumpbackWhaleSinging #WhaleCommunication
