why the fuck are your ocs so good
Literally practice. This isn’t even the kind of compliment I’ll deflect, like I usually would do. I do not remember a time of my life when I WASN’T bringing my own characters into things. It’s something my brain has done seriously from the moment I knew how to think.
And when I say ‘something my brain has done’ I mean that passively on purpose. I don’t sit down consciously to make up a fan character. It’s practically an organic process. I’ll think about the source material a LOT when I’m into it, I’ll hone in on a character I really like, and bit by bit ideas percolate through the cracks and start filling up an identity.
All I do is actually put effort into a visual design once I have stuff to go on. The rest of it is some expectant void that gradually accumulates ideas as my mind just repeatedly throws things into it until they stick. Like, Cedilla in particular, I actually knew what I wanted for the design before anything else, so I got that down really fast. THEN I played Undertale and watched the chips fall where they may. Took a while for me to even conjecture her having the scientific background, and then when I noticed the Gaster hints (and him referring to two unknown other parties) I realised I’d found the right vacant niche to slide her in with canon.
And then I reconciled the ‘current’ Cedilla (who lives and works in Snowdin, dances around trying to ask Sans out, and is really nervous around him) with the ‘past’ Cedilla (who was close buddies with Sans as his lab partner) by giving her Gaster-induced amnesia that fucked up her sense of self. I don’t think I even mentioned that part publically yet. :D
I love all my OCs and the best ones just settle into my mind and never leave, even after years and years. And they all reflect a lot of my personality too. I basically organise my whole life into blocks of whichever OC I had going at the time. c:
