Wheathill Wedding Couples – Ray and Paul

So we told you that 2013/14 was to be the year of love from Wheathill Towers, and it's time to introduce the first of Wheathill's very own Wedding Couples. They'll be sharing their adventures and misadventures, letting you in on the trials and tribulations of wedding planning from three very different perspectives… this week, meet Ray and Paul.
Who? Ray and Paul, freelance creative sorts
What? small-BIG-intimate-PARTY-wedding
Budget? Flexible
Now, I suspect this might be the most personal bit of blogging yet – I’m ½ of one of the lucky couples Wheathill is following in their wedding journey. I suppose you might call us the least traditional of the mix...
He? Wheathill Paul, he who designed and built this very website.
Me? Wheathill Ray, she of copywriting, blogging, and advertising things digital and social.
The proposal? A balcony over the Straits of Malacca, a Malaysian seascape with a hint of the huge-skied Redcar seascape of (his) home, a traditional down-on-one-knees speech, lots of squealing, a tear (or three), his Gran’s ring, and we were engaged. A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.
I was genuinely speechless. Blindsided by how intense it was. I sincerely hope everyone’s ‘Will you…?’ moment is as knee-tremblingly delicious.
You know how, sometimes, when the light’s just right, and you’re listening to the right music, and walking past a cool-looking derelict building, your hair’s alright for once, and you managed not to spill coffee all over as you sprinted out of the house… and you feel like you’re in a film.
That was us. Just for a moment. The crystallised, velvet-lit ‘happy-ever-after’.
Only then we had to start planning The Wedding.
That’s where things started to get complicated. Now, my attitude to all things matrimonial has always been conventionally quirky. Vegas. Mad dress. Maybe even Elvis. Done. Only he and me, all about the moment, no fuss, no seat covers, follow it up with a road trip and/crazy travelling antics, tell everyone afterwards.
He, however, couldn’t be more different. It’s all about family and friends, who cares where, but as long as everyone’s there to support and witness, and have a whopping great big party. Hmmmmm.
Now we’re in the situation of finding a solution that works for both of us, and for our family and friends, too. A small-BIG-intimate-PARTY wedding. Gulp. It’s going to be a busy year…
So that's that, and that's us. On Monday, we'll be back to more practical matters – picking the perfect wedding playlist!
