when you set out on the very quick walk between your apartment and the parker’s, it was not raining.
sure, the sky was darkening but it was also nearing the evening so that was expected. it was a 5 minute walks, tops. but even so, when the first drop of rain spattered before you, it took only 10 more seconds for the rest to follow. it started pouring.
it was such a short walk but god, you were soaked by the time you arrived to peter’s apartment block. soaked and very, very cold.
reaching the familiar apartment door, you rapped your knuckles lightly and danced on your toes, blowing hot air into your hands. you’d really love to have some feeling in your toes some time soon.
“c’mon pete,” you mumbled to yourself, willing some feeling back into your fingers. as if he had heard you, the door promptly swung inward and you were greeted with the sight of your best friend’s grinning face. his expression changed quickly, morphing into confusion. you ignored how cute you found it when his brows knitted together.
“hey– holy cow, you are wet. is it raining?” he spun around, eyes landing on the window behind him as if you had somehow gotten this wet some other way. nodding in confirmation, he turned his head back to you. “i didn’t even notice.”
pulling the door open wider, he ushered you in. “c’mon, i’ll grab you some warm clothes.”
smiling gratefully, you shuffled in past him, trying to contain the drips of rain that were leaving spots on the carpet. shivering lightly, you carefully removed your jacket that had not fared in the rain well and peter headed towards his bedroom.
“just put your stuff in the hamper! i’ll grab you some of my…” his words were cut off by the walls between you but from the muffles, you guessed he was still talking. pushing down the usual giddy smile you got from peter, you pulled off the hoodie that hadn’t survived the walk much better.
returning after a couple of minutes, peter gave a small smile as he handed over the clothes. you exchanged them for your wet hoodie and nearly sighed in relief at the warm clothes in your freezing hands. you were sure your expression was pure happiness.
peter chuckled at your reaction, “i chucked them in dryer for a minute to heat them up.”
he’s so good to you. feeling your cheeks set ablaze, you almost thanked him for making your blush and providing some warmth. but instead, you just fumbled for your words, making peter grin wider.
“It’s not a big deal so don’t get sappy with me.” he gave you a pointed look but his smile remained in it’s place. “i’ll put on the movie while you get changed.”
following his orders, you entered the bathroom & quickly stripped off your wet jeans, replacing them with pete’s warm and over-sized sweatpants. you thanked him eternally for supplying warm socks and shoved them on your feet.
then your eyes caught on his jumper. even though you were alone, you still ducked your head to hide your blush. it was probably the entire idea of wearing your boyfriend’s jumper that made you love wearing his midtown jumper (though it was strictly platonic.) it was identical to yours with one exception that made it so so much better – it still smelled of him.
rubbing your still-cold hands together as you walked, you grinned at the opening scenes of alien on the TV screen. hurrying over, you launched yourself over the back of the couch and landed smack! right beside peter.
“better?” he asked with a lazy grin, pulling his focus from the movie to you beside him. you nodded. the peace lasted 2 minutes, with both of your eyes on the movie before peter realized that you were still, ever-so-slightly, shivering.
“are you sure you’re not cold?” he asked, a slight smirk in his smile as he took his eyes off the screen once more. you went to reply but as you did, a shiver ran through your body and you couldn’t even deny it.
“c’mere,” he opened his arms for you to lay in. barely hesitating, you moved along to sofa until you were leaning into peter, his arms looping around you as you did.
cuddled into his chest, you didn’t notice the shivers leave your body – you were far too aware of the beat of his heart (which was wonderfully fast) and the heat in your cheeks.
