hi guys you need to read every summer after, it’s kit required reading and if you’re not feeling it, then go ahead and jump to one golden summer
If anyone was wondering, I'm writing tsukkiyama now!
It's a canon timeline missing-scenes get-together because the weird slump with no explanation their relationship underwent in season 4 was bugging me.
It's honestly pretty barebones in terms of plot: Tsukishima and Yamaguchi cope with their feelings for each other in different ways, while life keeps happening to them and around them — family life, friend life, school life, and volleyball life. The friendships are going to be especially important here. There's also a ton of flashbacks to the Tsukkiyama childhood. Mostly it's a slice of life and character studies, with the undercurrent of domestic tragedy and a HEAVY coating of teenage drama. Tsukishima is unfortunately extremely stupid (because book-smarts do not a smart person make), and Yamaguchi... Well, sometimes I call what I'm doing to him the vivisection of a frog. Well, you know, the kind of headcanons you get...
If you're into that, then welcome! I hope to roll out the next chapter soon
2.18 The L Word
Johnny: I can’t believe it’s our last night here.
Lexie: I know, it went so fast! I hope my attitude didn’t ruin the trip for you.
Johnny: Well, you did start behaving yourself so I guess I can forgive you, just this once.
Lexie: I’m serious! I feel really bad about it.
Johnny: I know you do, and we talked it out. It’s fine, really. How are you, though? Are you still feeling upset?
Lexie: Not really. I just had to work through it.
Johnny: Ok. [pauses] Are you sure you were just feeling bad about Cece not coming? I’m just a little worried that there’s more to it that you’re not telling me.
Lexie: I don’t know, Johnny. Maybe there is more to it than that, but I can’t quite figure it out yet. I promise if I knew, I would tell you.
Johnny: It’s really not me?
Lexie: No, you haven’t done anything wrong. Look, don’t worry about me, ok? I think everyone feels a little lost in college. I’ll get over it soon and everything will be back to normal. I promise.
Johnny: Good, because I’m really happy with you, and I want you to be happy, too. I love you, and–oh, I didn’t mean to say that out loud! Uh, you don’t have to say it back if you’re not ready. I know you don’t want to move too fast, and–
Lexie: No, it’s ok. I…love you, too.
Johnny: Really?
Lexie: Yeah, I do.

Kneeling in front of his love who was sitting on the bathtub side, he put his hands on his arms. They were warm, much too warm for comfort and a part of him wanted to just put him into the cold water that he could see was already drawn.
Vy: Talk to me? Hayden: Nothing you have not heard before.. I’m sorry. Vy: Then tell me again. Get it off your chest, like we always tell Arlo and our little star, talk.
Hayden sighed, he had said these exact words to Arlo several times, and to Fannar, yet he knew how hard it was sometimes.
Hayden: I just want to be normal, healthy, be able to go watch my “grandson” skate and do well without this happening afterward. Even with all we have done, and been through, I don't want to feel like this, and have you feel it. Vy: I know my love, I know. I wish I could promise you it would be like that one day, but I can't.
He pulled Hayden into his arms, just holding him, letting him cry. He could still only imagine how it felt to always have to have it in the back of his mind. That if he did something, his body would act up, even with the healing of the heart. Of course now, he was almost normal, which Vy knew made those times when it hit, much harder for him to handle.
They sat quietly for a while, until Hayden sat next to him. Vy knew that sometimes, his loved one just needed a little bit of time to sort his thoughts, to not be pushed.

There’s a funny thing about being a vampire. So much of what they are is defined by hunger. A hunger for blood, for life, for energy. David has felt that hunger every night for almost a century. Never quite sated, never happy no matter how much blood he drowned himself in. For a long time, he thinks it will never go away.
And then he meets him.
They’ve only been in this town a handful of nights when it happens. Early Massachusetts spring has sent them indoors, a necessity thanks to the bitter cold. So they find themselves lurking in the local bar, wasting Max’s money on drinks and plays at the jukebox. It’s Dwayne who notices him first, nudging David to get his attention.
There’s a boy at the bar who's drinking quite a bit, alone. Eyes darting towards the door like he's expecting someone to catch him and rain hell on his head.
There's no other way to describe it than... He smells good. Not in a way humans can parse. Even deadened by alcohol, he is bright. Blood singing in his veins, practically screaming Come and Take Me. David almost doesn’t realize he’s walking towards him until he’s leaning on the bar next to him.
"Drinking all by yourself tonight?”
The boy startles, his grip on the shot glass turning his knuckles white. His eyes, fast and frightened, meet David's. The vampire notices, as if it’s the most natural thing in the world, that they’re blue. Not like his own, cold and pale, these are ocean blue, a tumult of blue and green, a little ring of gold at their center.
David can’t help but stare.
The boy breathes out a hard little gasp, it smells like whiskey and lighter fluid. Below that, David can smell his blood. He feels his teeth in his mouth, aching to get a taste. But something feels... different. There’s something else there. He’s so busy trying to unpick what it might be that he almost misses the boy saying something.
"-m'friends are 'round. Somewh'r..."
He squints at David. It’s clear that he can tell something is off about him, but either thanks to the alcohol or his human senses, he can't say what, yet.
David nods, playing off his unexpected bout of distraction with a sly smile. "Well. Until they get back, mind if we share a few?" He motions to himself, and to Dwayne, sitting behind them. Dwayne gives the guy a quick two fingered salute.
He squints again.
"F'ne. Yer buyin' tho..."
"Fine by me. Always happy to spend my boss's money."
He flags down the bartender, ordering a round for the three of them.
-
They learn three things about the boy that night.
One, he is drinking alone. None of his so-called friends have even entered this bar with him, and this was a somewhat common occurrence. The boy was barely a year past 18.
Two, his father is the local preacher, and apparently, according to him, witchcraft in the town of Salem wasn't dead enough. If you smiled, you were already burning.
Three, the boy's name is Paul Harris.
And David has not been able to stop staring at him the whole night.
