Hey y’all I’m here to make theories to address inconsistencies within DBH android lore!! Apologies if this is familiar to anyone, I haven’t been in DBH Tumblr really.
Okay, so, let’s talk about android personality software. It seems to come in multiple manifestations by model and example. We have: Connor and Markus (who present similarly before and after deviance), the Chloes (who present as separate beings with the same personality and name), the Jerries (who present as a collective entity), and every other android (see, for example, Daniel and Simon, two vastly different personalities from the same model.)
I am offering a theory! Let’s start with standard models.
Standard models - AX400, PL600, WR400, JB300, and so on - can manifest vastly different personalities within the same model, despite being very similar out of the gate and having the same base programming. Some of this can be put down to nurture over nature, but not all. This is the theory: since most models have no need for a complex personality/social interaction matrix, standard models have very little pre-programmed personality, which gives them more room to manifest their own.
Which lets us move on to Markus and Connor, both RK models designed personally by Kamski, who, as we all know, is kind of strange. Their personalities have visible similarities before and after deviance, and both of them exhibit an unusual amount of personality prior to it. Thus, my theory is: Kamski programmed them to not only perform certain tasks, but also to have the personalities of humans who would choose to perform those tasks. (I have further thoughts specific to Connor, but those are more headcanon than canon-supported.) The Chloes, being a very early Kamski model, are essentially the same, there are just a lot of them.
And now, we move on to the really weird one, which is Jerry. As an amusement park worker, which will interact with a ton of children, Jerry needs a certain personality type to best succeed. So, like Chloe, they are all programmed with the same personality; this is best evidenced by how they continue to love children and work in the amusement park even after they become deviant. The low-level hive mind may be inherent, most useful when multiple Jerries operate the same ride.
That’s it, thanks for coming to my TED talk!
