I love love loved it!!!
I already love all of Sandra Bullock’s romantic comedies, but this one holds a very special place in my heart. I saw someone mention it in a blog post here, saying it’s somehow connected to The Bear. I mean, yes, it takes place in Chicago… so I guess there’s a connection, though it didn’t feel like a direct one to me. But I wanted it to be connected. Because that love story touched me so much—it made my heart feel warm in such a beautiful way.
And I found myself wishing for the same thing between Sydney and Carmy. Unfortunately. I say “unfortunately” because I still don’t fully believe that’s where the show is heading. But let’s just say I trust the subtext more than what’s directly shown.
I’ll just make a very brief and surface-level comment. If there had been a kind of adaptation—if The Bear had truly taken something from While You Were Sleeping or ever plans to—this is how I would’ve liked it to go: Luca would take the role of the brother, and Carmy would be the main “Jack” character. Sandra Bullock’s character (Lucy) could go down the road toward marrying Luca, and Carmy would have to be okay with it. But then eventually, Sydney would realize her feelings for Carmy, and Lucy would step away from that marriage path. Of course, this would have to happen seasons later—I don’t think The Bear is going to show anything like a wedding theme anytime soon. But maybe we could see Luca and Sydney as a couple for a while, and then see Carmy’s reaction to that… I don’t know.
I don’t know. But I’m really glad someone mentioned While You Were Sleeping, and that I watched it.
