are you guys okay? hope you and your loved ones are staying healthy
Yeah, thanks for asking! Since America is so bad at testing the truth is none of us know if we’re fine, and won’t for a little since symptoms can take up to 2 weeks to present themselves. And the real trick for me and my OCD has been not thinking about that too much. Please be better than me and don’t anxiety-scroll through twitter on a regular basis.
But taking it a day at a time, I’m super duper lucky in that I’m able to be very sheltered and my job is not impacted at this moment (I was already working from home 1-2 days a week). Schools are closed as of yesterday, so it’s mostly just me, Griffin, and Trys hanging out and playing video games. We’re limiting trips to the store as much as possible, and only seeing his parents ~once/week as our social interaction. We both voted via mail a few days ago. My work productivity is shot to hell, but there’s going to be time to catch up, and I’m guessing some deadlines will be pushed. My biggest fear right now is about Griffin’s 92-year-old Grandpa who just beat pancreatic cancer, and who is determined to still hang out with his friends.
I’m also lucky in that the IL governor has been on this for some time, and he’s been imposing increasing restrictions that hopefully will flatten the curve. What we’re going to see in the weeks and months to come is some regions doing okay in terms of pacing medical care, and some regions really really not. I just hope people are able to lay low for a couple months, rather than getting bored and claiming it’s not really doing anything/necessary.
But, there’s good news too. We’re going to know more and more about this virus as time goes on, particular as recovering countries begin blood testing for traces of antibodies (which will let us know a lot more about asymptomatic spread and rates). The scariest aspect right now is how little we know.
It’s gonna be a very weird birthday on Friday.
