You’re asking me like I have any trouble admitting it. Of course I miss them. I’m still getting used to not seeing them every day. Seeing Trucy with her award-winning smile... Athena getting pumped for the next trial... Mr. Wright asking me to clean the toilet for the fifth time...
Well, I guess there are a few things I don’t miss...

Something that always bothered me about the Boost Sonic games is that if felt like I was racing past a backdrop rather than actually engaging with the environment. Do you know what I mean?
I guess? I dunno. You’re talking to a person who sometimes likes to slow down and admire the details in Sonic Unleashed.
Like how some restaurants you run past actually have menus you can read.
I guess the issue is that later games (Sonic Generations, Sonic Forces) don’t really have these kinds of small details anymore. Unleashed was undoubtedly a very expensive game for them to make and they probably didn’t see the returns they were hoping for. So, getting rid of small details like this helps cut costs.
I mean, jeeze, you have concept art for Sonic Forces that looks like this:
There’s also a leaked early version of the game script that describes other levels with way more visual detail than they ended up getting in the end (the Death Egg was supposed to look a lot more like Eggmanland, for example).
It’s just not worth putting stuff out there that most people aren’t going to see.
At the same time, that’s also just racing games, I guess. You need things to be clear and readable, give the player enough room to maneuver, etc.
There are dividers and cones and caution stripes to let you know where the boundaries of the road are. That kind of at-a-glance clarity is important.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.

Trucy: Yeah… it’s hard to believe how he’s gone from a screechy-voiced rookie to a screechy-voiced full-fledged lawyer!
Phoenix: Hahaha! That he is.
Trucy: It’s amazing to think about in a way. I knew he’d leave the agency to start his own eventually, but after only two years…
Phoenix: Aw, Trucy. Do you miss him already?
Trucy: Yeah. After all we’ve been through together, it just felt so… sudden. I get how he wants to help Prosecutor Nahyuta and the others in Khura’in… but sometimes I wonder if he had a different reason for staying there.
Phoenix: Hmm… I suppose when we were leaving, he did look a little relieved… but I think it’s only natural.
Trucy: Natural… that he stayed, you mean?
Phoenix: Yep. I’m sure you could tell how much he’s grown these couple years. When he announced it, there wasn’t a hint of hesitation in his eyes.
Trucy: Yeah… if he were still a rookie, I bet he’d be quaking in his shoes just thinking about helping to reform an entire legal system! It’s a big responsibility, after all.
Phoenix: Oh, definitely… To be honest, if they were to ask me, I don’t think I’d be able to accept.
Trucy: Well, you do have your own firm to run here.
Phoenix: Exactly, and two adorable kids under my belt. Apollo… he’s already proven he’s no longer a child. It was about time he left the safety of the nest to take on the world and forge his own path.
Trucy: I know, Daddy… but it just hasn’t been the same without him lately.
Phoenix: The office does seem that little bit emptier, huh… But at least you still have Athena!
Trucy: Yeah, and I’m glad for it! …but to be honest, she doesn’t make as good an assistant.
Phoenix: Aw. She’s still new to the position. I’m sure she’ll learn the trade soon enough.
Trucy: I don’t doubt it, Daddy! But she still has this bad habit of moving when I tell her not to. One time, she was nearly burned because she moved too early during a trick. The whole stage would have been burned too if we hadn’t caught that ring of fire asap.
Phoenix: Oh, yeowch.
Trucy: Fortunately, we put out the fire, so everything was fine! …as Apollo would say.
Phoenix: He sure would… and I’m sure he’d be glad that it wasn’t him doing that trick.
Trucy: Heh heh! I can’t wait to show him how well we’ve trained Athena! I wonder when he’s coming back…
Phoenix: Well, he didn’t give us a particular date…
Trucy: That’s too bad.
Phoenix: …Then again, we don’t have a date set when we’d visit him either.
Trucy: ! Daddy, you mean…?
Phoenix: How about it, Trucy? If he can’t come to your next show…
Trucy: Then we’ll bring it to him! Thanks so much, Daddy! *hug* Now Athena and I really have to pick up the pace! The sooner, the better, as they say!

Okay. What do you think of the idea of a character that goes out of their way to give disaster relief to Dr. Eggman's victims? [e.g. the little animal friends. ] Amy's been the closest thing, but good lord, don't make me go there.
Hooo boy, sorry I took so long but I needed to be able to type this out on a PC, and I needed the energy for it. Anyway to answer your question:
I WHOLEHEARTEDLY THINK THAT SHOULD BE A THING IF IT ISN’T ALREADY.
Considering the endless deterioration of several hundred ecosystems due to Dr. R’s constant ravaging for resources, it’s safe to assume a lot of the Small Animals lost their homes and food supply, it would take a massive amount of time for it to be repaired normally.
Plus, it wouldn’t be the first time in universe that such a thing was created: did you know the Chao were once endangered, to the point of near extinction? That’s why the Station Square Chao Garden and others like it were created, and also presumably why the Find the lost Chao Missions in Sonic Adventure 2 (and a few similar missions in other games) exist.
So yeah, it should definitely be a thing.
And as for Amy being disaster relief for them, it’s very much in character for her, regardless of which Amy it is. No matter the situation she always does her best to help out those in need. That’s probably what lead her to meet Sticks in the Boom continuity.
why does every sonic fanfic that pairs sonic with someone thats not amy have to involve a yandere amy?
This is definitely not a unique phenomenon. Whenever one pairing comes at the expense of another - especially if it defies a ‘canon’ (or near-canon) pairing, you’ll see writers try to demonise the character who is left on the outside.
I think sometimes it’s misplaced anger at a character who is more popular in a ship or has canon support, and sometimes it’s just an insecure writer’s attempts at making sure that the audience knows that [X] character could never get with [Y] character and this is why they’re not together. As if making that character horrible or at least highly unlikable is the only way to protect the writer’s own pairing from being infiltrated.
Whatever it is, it’s immature and unnecessary, but I think it’s something a lot of budding fic writers have to go through. I can admit that, way back in the day, I used to write Amy as shrill, annoying and unnecessary. Heck, I used to write Sonic as actively disliking Amy, just because I disliked her.
Now she is in my top ten characters and has a strong and active role within Sonic’s core group, and he is openly fond of her as a close friend, even though they are not romantically together. But it was an awakening I had to have about being fair to characters and appreciating them for their own worth even if you don’t agree with a popular ship for them - and seeing characters like Amy as more than just the written-off love interest.
So, I can understand why some writers are still stuck in that rut. I just hope that they can grow out of it like I did, because you really miss out on some great characters when you mischaracterise them and write them off like that.
Any advice for beginner Doom Mappers with no ideas for the full picture?
I appreciate coming to me for advice, but I haven’t stepped out of the Doom mapping beginner area myself. And I’ve never had any ideas for the full picture, either. I’m really not a good mapper and it would probably be better asking someone more familiar with mapping and the mapping process.
Maybe @jimmyzd or @sgt-shivers or @darsycho or @unholypimpin could help out? They’re all significantly better than me.
