Writing Prompt 026

HEALERS I

Special thanks to @mottinthemainpot, @for-the-love-of-angst and @clockworknightmares who have contributed their thoughts and intriguing ideas to this prompt list, couldn’t have done this without them. :)

I’ll be splitting this list in to possibly two parts due to fact that it is a very long list.

TW: implied death, illness, injuries, minor whump

Hear this:

Healers. We need Healers. And not just any Healers. We need Healers who can heal people from their pain but in exchange they have to suffer and bear the pain of the patients’ wounds or illness. There’s so much potential with such Healers.

Imagine such Healers being rare that people crown and worship them for their powers, so they end up having to heal the masses and are expected to do so everyday and without any breaks. The crowned Healer, being the good hearted person that they are, does so obviously to the point of exhaustion. Perhaps the Healer eventually dies from having to take on too much burden from the injuries, illnesses and exhaustion.

Or perhaps they live and are now retired, no longer able to contribute much to the community through healing so they are relieved from their old job and now are tasked to train the next Healer to take their place. The young Healer, maybe knowing of thier fate are scared and are honestly not ready to face their fate. Not to mention, they may be still a child even. Of course the now retired Healer has a choice; to do as they are supposed to: train the younger Healer to be the crowned the next Healer despite knowing their cruel fate.

Or not. Knowing of the Healer’s fate, the mentor decides to care for their apprentice, hiding them from the public or even running away for that matter. Bringing the new Healer to a secluded, quiet place such as a forest to live there and raise the child.

On that note, for a dash of whump, have them escape, running for their lives from the city or village that they were crowned in. Have them run away just after exhausting themselves from a healing round.

Perhaps the retried Healer exhausted themselves sacrificing themselves so that the younger one would have more energy to escape. But upon doing so, they bare the patients’ pain and are having difficulty keeping up with the young Healer. The have to push on, stumbling around as close as they can get without passing out. They need to keep the younger one safe.

Or on the other hand, the younger one had just exhausted themselves from their duties making it difficult for them to make the escape. So their mentor picks them up into their arms and flee, holding them safe and close. Though pressed for time and in danger, the older Healer tries to keep the younger one comfortable and helps them get some rest, perhaps even taking on some of their pain.

More whump you say? Well...

Add in a kidnapping. As the two make their escape, they get ambushed by a group of traders or trafficker who are knowledgable to the rarity and value of the Healers. With that, they are taken captive and possibly gets sold for money just for their powers.

Right. Now as if this wasn’t enough, what about a betrayal?

The innocent and inexperienced Healer getting betrayed by their only source of safety, the retried Healer. The older Healer, being offered something they want or need desperately pushes them to sell the younger one out. After all, having youth meant that they would have a higher chance of survival right? They still have much power, they should be able to handle it.

On that note, speaking about selling Healers, imagine someone, probably a Healer with questionable morals training healers specifically to be sold. Lying to them saying that they'll provide them with protection and care but sells them away to traders and traffickers eventually in exchange for money or protection.
