What is a scolds bridle?
A scold’s bridle, also known as a witch’s bridle, brank’s bridle, or just branks, was a medieval form of corporal punishment and public humiliation.
It’s an iron muzzle/mask that encircled the head, sometimes with faces on them.
Past here, I have some more detailed descriptions and pictures. Nothing too explicit or graphic but just beware.
alright, i’m not sure if you’re the right person to ask about this, but i want to know if you have advice.
i’m a minor who’s an active member of the whump community, and i enjoy reading noncon. i don’t actually like or reblog any of the nsfw posts i consume because i’m very much aware of the repercussions that could bring. i don’t produce or write nsfw myself at all. but even when those kinds of writing pieces tell minors to keep out, a lot of the time, i still read them. i’m really not sure what to do. is it wrong of me to consume that kind of whump? should i stop? apologies if you’re uncomfortable with this, feel free to abstain from answering!
Hi! It’s totally fine to ask me these kinds of questions! Info under the cut for those who don’t want to read about this stuff.
hello! what does whump mean?
Jk.
Whump is whenever a character is hurt or being hurt.
I have an in depth post about whump and also a tag where I explain whump things :)
What is your definition of whump?
Enjoyable
I’m just making sure I’ve got this. So, would it be like “Trigger warning. Here is my triggering prompt. Signed, Emoji”?
Yep!
Even if you just sign it with an emoji, I’ll know and hide it away :)
My Whump Terms
“Whump” The act of hurting a character.
“Whumper” refers to the one causing a character pain
“Whumpee” is someone that is being hurt, usually by the whumper but sometimes inadvertently by a loved one.
“Loved one” A friend, a family member, a team member, a caretaker. Anyone that the main character loves. Used by me usually to keep prompts up to interpretation.
“Caretaker” someone who cares for the whumpee, usually after whump.
“X and Y” Two characters that are unspecified by me. Fill in your own characters as you like.
“Half-breed” A character that is more than one race, usually a mix of human and other. Sometimes used as an insult
“Mutt.” A cruel or derogatory name towards a half-breed.
“Robot”. Becoming more and more interchangeable with “android.” I realize that they are two different things but for the sake of clarity and being succinct, I use “robot” for both. OC wise, Zero is a robot, not an android.
“Hero” A character in a superhero setting who falls into the hero archetype.
“Villain” usually the whumper of a hero. A character in a superhero setting who falls into the villain archetype.
“Team” A collection of people. Usually united against something together.
Those are just some quick, simple explanations of the terms I am most asked about. I’m actually putting together a sort of dictionary regarding all the whump terms I see thrown around here that’s far more in depth! But here’s some quick definitions for you, while I work on that. I generally try to keep things vague on my prompts so it’s easier for people to envision their own characters there but that can make things confusing.
Head injuries: A rundown for whumpers
Part One
I recently got an ask pertaining to certain injures that trauma to the head may cause. I’m working on answering that one in specific details (it’ll go up after this series) but as it was getting quite long, I decided to post this first with more information.
This isn’t necessarily what I could call a “gory” post but it does go into some brief detail around medical things and anatomy. There are no pictures or anything but proceed at your own discretion.
DISCLAIMER: I am not a medical professional, do not look to this post for professional advice or treatment. Occasionally I consult with my EMR certified friends and family but the majority of the information I am sharing has been gathered from going down Google rabbit holes. Most of my research came from authorized medical websites but the internet is the internet. All of this will be lovely for creative purposes but not for real life application
Boredom Disclaimer: This is probably going to be suuuuper dry and boring. I try to keep it short and relevant but who knows how well I actually do there.
First in the series are the big boys, the TBIs everyone!
