Day 31: Who is someone in the whump-creating world you admire and why?
ok for this one there’s so many people I could shout out, but I wanna take a second and show my admiration for the mods—here @whumpmasinjuly but also those @whumptober and all the other whumpy events that we are lucky to have! stuff like this that brings this community together couldn’t function without y’all, and I feel like we don’t always remember and acknowledge how much work goes on behind the scenes to let events like this run like they do. I really admire everything you all do to let us participate in such awesome events, so just a massive massive thank you to anyone who’s ever modded a whump event!!!! love ya!!!
WhumpmasInJuly day 31: Who is someone in the whump-creating world you admire and why?
Okay so I sorta skipped a lot of days lmao, but I really really really wanted to do this one! So :) In no particular order
———
@oros-ash3s
I admire him because I think he deals with beauty very well. Not exclusively about writing. Not even just on his art, either! Everything miscellaneous too. Moodboards (so well-curated!!!! Dude!!! I don't think I've seen such organized and intentional pinterest boards before) and the care he puts into... Character intros and even little details like the color of text and line dividers. I'm an appreciator of the pretty things so I find that really neat.
And I also really love his characters! Yeah. And his prose!!!! Oh man talk about a prose that is >>>
@inhurtandincomfort
I admire em because of the way ey deals with eir characters. All of their flaws, all of their faults, all of their virtues, all of their motivations and all of their feelings, even the very vile villains are just so fun to get to see. Even the ones I hate. I'm a bit invested in Clyde's asshole motivations lmao. Yes. I really like them. Talk about deeply flawed characters (cough cough eldwin cough cough jowan) who have a really special place in my heart.
I like the way ze writes and the sort of ideas that ze uses! The sort of situations ae can evoque. And also, a little bit because I'm biased, the whole vibe of Eldwin's looks. Good taste.
(And I also really admire how they're picking up drawing as well! As an artist it makes me very happy to see. I love it when people pick up art. Even if just for a while and they realize it isn't for them, or if they stick with it and find a new passion. Yeah ^^)
And also how he's a very dear friend to me :) I'm glad I've met her. And also because it uses any pronouns and that is at least a tiny little bit awesome like come on
@melpomenelamusa
LATAM LET'S GO!!!!
I really admire how she deals with sort of slow pacing! And character arcs! I've said it before, but the story she's telling is not something I'd be able to write, and it makes me so happy that someone like her can and takes joy in doing so. Her story (Chimeras) is so well-rounded and it feels like. There's quite some of side-plots and they're all so fullfilling. I'm really, really glad I've met her as well.
@whumpawaydarling
I really admire how xe's excited over xem own work! The amount of love and fun put into each character, their arc, even side details of the story, is something I really, deeply appreciate. It makes the experience of reading it so. Well. Fun. I admire the way he tells stories, and the way he builds a world and fantastical situations to place said story's characters too.
Somebody whom I am definitely really, really happy I have met. And also I really love. I don't know. Xem energy. Demeanor? Who knows. It. It makes me really, really happy to be around.
@befuddled-calico-whump
I really admire the way she will keep drawing! And tell stories through it! She was one of the first blogs I followed in whumpblr two years ago, and the first ART ive posted here was for her characters. She inspired me a quite a bit. I admire your craft and am glad you've decided to share it with us :) There's never enough whump comics on the world.
@whumpsday
Another one of the first blogs I ever followed! Their story gave me a lot of comfort since other times, and even if not inside my Very Favorite Tropes and actually being about things I'm not even usually interested in, their work makes me really engaged. Proof you don't need to love a trope to adore the story it is in. Well, save for vampires I am actually very very very very fond of vampires.
And in regards to whumpblr, I sort of admire him as a senior /half silly.
@chiswhumpcorner
Some time ago, I used to get quite unsatisfied over the fact that I didn't know more living weapons. And stars 🙏 it's as if my prayers were heard.
I really admire them because of the fun, amazing emotions they can pour into their writing through the main character's pov. Kev is not actually that close to a hero, but someone to root for regardless. Their narration is something that gets me excited everytime, and I also admire ther art quite a lot! They are. Yes. A very very cool person, writer and artist.
@there-will-always-be-blood
I really, really, really admire her prose. Her descriptions are commendable, and I simply go giddy about the way she uses words. Ruthless descriptions that give me the actual chills, and also the way she goes about her whumpee's arc. It is utterly, wonderfully cruel. A world I love to get peeks into. I'm glad she shares all of that with us. Really, really glad.
@livingforthewhump
Literally the one person in my following list that is all the way down. If I recall, she wasnt the very first blog I followed, but oh, she was close.
She isnt active in the community anymore, and is running another blog, but I wanted to say how much the stories she shared were important to me! I recall it fondly to this day, and am very glad i stumbled upon it all the way back to 2023. I hope she's doing well!
@/emmettnet
Although not active on tumblr anymore (the title does say "whump-creating world") I really enjoyed the time in which he was! I had fun. I also appreciated the amount of trigger warnings he'd provide (lmao), it helped me avoid a lot of things I don't like or am icky about.
Also, in sort of a weird way, this also helped me expand what I knew or thought I'd be fine with and learn what I wasn't comfortable in seeing. Exploring this was really important to me.
I admire him because he is a great inspiration to me! Both his art, his writing prose and his ideas, and ive realized from being around that I can just. Post character fics at a random whim. Indirectly, his way of writing and having so much Fun with it influenced me to get over my little 'block' about writing—I had some experience but I wasn't even sure of where or when or how to go about it—picking up the keyboard and starting. Given, starting small. Warmup fics, exploring characters, and eventually, even starting Espada! The blog he ran was very encouraging to me as a young writer and member of whumpblr, so I really, really appreciate it.
———
Overall. I'd also like to give a shoutout to. Well. @ The whole whump community! Some people that I've met (and been so happy to even though they haven't been mentioned), some I haven't, some whose ways have crossed with mine but we didn't linger. I really like all of this community.
Ever since I was a little kid, I remember feeling terribly, utterly ashamed and afraid I was an awful person for "daydreaming about people being hurt at bedtime" (I even went to my mom crying about it once lmao). Knowing all of these people and the things we've built makes me so happy we can all have a safe and fun space (actually, spaces, plural!) to explore and play with and tell stories about the painful, the anguishing, the intense, the cathartic and the purely sadistic as well.
My first social media was aquired because I wanted to share my voice. I was a very quiet person a lot of years ago. I wanted to talk, but I had no one to hear me. So the concept of "social media" made me so damn happy. I could speak, and who knows what kinds of people would be able to listen to me! And here I am, having found some of the coolest people in the world (around the whole world.)
So. Yeah. I admire all of you, in a sense. I'm glad we can share this space together—and also, to all my friends here (and the ones I haven't tagged but maybe they see this, who knows), I also :) Love you. (If you're good with that. If not, I retire my word. I do appreciate you lots.) I don't think I've said that before. Yeah. I love you!!!! Thank you so so so so much.
I am really glad we can share all this wonderful joy and lovely woe in here.
Whumpmas In July Day 31 - Who is someone in the whump-creating world that you admire and why?
@whumpmasinjuly-archive
The first person that comes to mind for me is Stephen King. He's one of my favorite authors and I love his work. The stories he creates are just so detailed and unique. I wish I could meet him over dinner and just...pick his brain. Ask him all the things I've always wanted to know regarding his work. He's, in my opinion, a master of the craft.
Whumpmas in July Day 31: Who is someone you admire and why?
throughout my time in the whumblr community, there have been many writers who i have admired and emulated. too many to just choose one. however, this year, i have to dedicate my shoutout to the absolute powerhouse that is isaac (aka @whump-tr0pes) for his works over the past few years 💖💖💖
his honor bound series is an enviable magnus opus for any writer, his ability to capture the realistic minutiae of injury, his talent for capturing the adrenaline of a tense moment, and his broad cast of complex, thorny, broken, beautiful characters have kept me hooked since i first ventured into this space. every reread brings tears to my eyes and makes me grapple with the necessary and delicious discomfort of human contradictions.
in his series lux in tenebris, @whump-tropes shows a profound talent for mythology and abstract verse that made me realize his writing talents were not restrained to just one style of writing, deftly weaving religious trauma, dehumanization (and the very nature of what is a person), and a new take on the corruption of power into a heartwrenching love story.
i am so privileged to be able to call this writer a peer and a friend and i know that whatever he writes, i will be devastated and delighted to read it. 💖💖💖💖
31. Who is someone in the whump-creating world that you admire and why?
Everyone I mentioned on day 7, I think, plus people I remembered right after posting that, so beyond those I'd like to mention @there-will-always-be-blood and @doomeddestination for The Crow and the Dove and Sercrecy respectively.
I admire everyone who creates and contributes to this community and helps make it my favourite place on the internet!
People who read a few of the stories I loved working on the most @chaotic-orphan and @whumplicity deserve a special shoutout, your comments always make my day
Who is someone in the whump-creating world that you admire and why?
Oh, there are so many amazing people I've seen around here, many of whom I haven’t interacted with yet, but I’ve caught glimpses of their work and found it wonderful! However, in this occasion, I’d like to mentions come people:
@whumperofworlds: Her blog was one of the first I stumbled upon when I had just created my Tumblr, and honestly, it was the perfect welcome into this community. From the very beginning, I was hooked by her content, characters and stories, and most of all, because now my love for Used as Bait grow even more! Thank you so much for everything you create and share with us!
Zero @inhurtandincomfort and Sami @cepheusgalaxy are such kind people who share tons of content about their OCs and stories, and I think that’s something truly admirable and awesome! I adore Eldwin, Jowan, Ancassiuss, and Espa as if they were my own children, and I’m always super happy whenever I come across content about them on my dash.
@lady-wallace was one of the first fanfic authors I ever read, and definitely the one that kept me coming back. Her stories tend to reflect everything I love to read, and the dedication she puts into her writing, illustrations, notebooks, stickers, and other products is truly admirable. A complete artist!
@befuddled-calico-whump creates amazing comics, illustrations, writing—she has it all!!! Truly admirable (Benji, my child).
@whumpisgoodwhumpislife: His stories are incredible, gut-wrenching, but in the best way. One of my favorites authors on this site.
@writinglittlepains writes short but SO good and entertaining stories!! Come on, those whumpees aren’t going to gag themselves.
@bilightningwhumper: Even though I haven’t read all their stories yet, what I’ve read has been super intense and fascinating! I love how you can really feel the blood, sweat, and tears poured into every one of their texts, and working on so many projects, with such complex stories and deep characters, isn't easy. I hope you're proud of all your work, too!!!
Who is someone in the whump-creating world that you admire and why?
Honestly? Everyone I’ve encountered so far. The fact that we’re all here, creating, making our own community, having a safe space to enjoy writing and each other’s writing is amazing to me. Not to mention I'm always discovering/meeting more whump writers all the time on here. So trying to narrow it down to one person when there are so many fantastic creators here, that’s basically impossible for me when I admire so many of you!
So to compromise, here’s my reading lists again, lol: My Whump Reading List [A-M] and My Whump Reading List [N-Z]
I'm planning on updating these in the next month or so while in surgery recovery. But that does depend on how focused I am on my library books+tbr pile and my own whump writing, though, lol.
Though, I will say, editing this later as it occurred to me I should give at least one special shout out to @melpomenelamusa!
Your comments on my stories in the past several months have really kept me going. Like, getting likes and reblogs from folks have helped and a few requests for taglists have as well. But getting those comments have been *chef's kiss* so good! It's really nice to have visual evidence(?) that someone else loves my characters as much as I do (maybe even more so than me in some cases, lol). That and you don't mind me rambling on even if that means potential spoilers along the way, lol. Or that the stories are still just in fragments (half out of order, which I know is confusing at times)
Just, yeah. It's meant a lot to me and has gotten me to write on days when I just don't feel like it, even if it's just plotting or planning more of the stories. I haven’t had this kind of bounce-back interaction in years and I didn't realize just how much it meant to me until now. Even just the "😮😮😮" on one of my last bits made my day. So thank you ❤️
Day 31: Who is someone in the whump-creating world you admire and why?
Oooof. I have. A LOT of people who I love and care about in this community. Buuuuut. I'll choose a select few or we'd be here all day XD
@fourwingedwriter Is an excellent writer and also a sweet person! :D
@tildeathiwillwrite Is also an amazing writer with really great plots and ideas for whump!!!
@melpomenelamusa One of my good friends ❤️ Absolutely love Tete and Freyra!!!
@painful-pooch My first friend in the community! Love your military whump!!!
And the person who's whump posts that got me into the community in the first place... @the-wandering-whumper . Your whump posts are so great, and I wish you well on your life ❤️
...Yeah, I'd tag more but... I got waaaaay too many people to tag 😆 But to those who I didn't tag, I still love y'all's prompts, works, and so much more, and overall, I love this community. It helped me be more confident and less shy, not to mention helping me with my personal growth.
