ok i’m bored and feeling analytical so i’m gonna list every state i think a bunch of CL characters are from! (even if it’s obvious. i just feel chatty) i’ll also be sprinkling my own headcanons here n there
Jane Doe: MINNESOTAAA (Not that it was in doubt.) I just think wish we had seen more of it. Show her being a snowball fight master on Mount Whitehead!
Scoutmaster Lumpus: Wisconsin. His parents sound it, and he sort of does too, and I’m sure his passion for fishing and boating had its origins on the Great Lakes. A lot of you know I headcanon his middle name to be Crawford, after the Wisconsin county, which is actually landlocked. (Isn’t that just his luck?)
Edward Platypus: Again, basically canon: a New Yorker, specifically Southern New York. The Bronx, or Queens, if not the City itself? The various accents are supposed to be distinct from each other but I’m not familiar enough to say which is his. One way or another, he’s got one of the stronger ones (strawnguh ones) for sure. He seems to come from wealth. In my headcanon, the Platypus family own a huge New York-based construction company. That also explains Edward’s naturally-occurring foreman schtick in “Bowling for Dinosaurs.” (“I WANNA EXCAVATE DUH WHOLE CAMP! DIS BOWLIN’ ALLEY’S IN THE WAY’A THE DINOSAW BONES, GET IT OUTTA HERE!”)
Samson Clogmeyer: Canonically “ten minutes away” from Camp Kidney per “S is For Crazy.” So depends on where you place that. Me, I figure if CL is based on Joe Murray’s childhood camping experiences in California, it’s probably California. I’ve got friends who put it in Wisconsin, and I can vibe with that! Samson’s got a sort of faint, Wisconsiny accent himself. “My mah’m.” “Some mahrbles… and a box’a cereal!”
Clam: *gulp* …Florida. He wears a tropical shirt in “Where’s Lazlo?” and is fascinated by rocks. You could argue that narrows it down… not at all. Idk. He’s got that Florida aura in him. (The good kind.)
Raj: Raj of course comes from India, apparently from the fictional “Kafizzle River region.” Rivers tend to be set in valleys, and towns form naturally within rivers and valleys, so I posit there’s a “Kafizzle River Valley,” and he comes from there. His family is “well off” and he’s shown to live in a mansion in “Tusk Wizard” (assuming the elephant in the fantasy sequence is indeed him,) so he likely comes from one of the richest if not the richest families in the valley. (His mom also has the softest buns in the whole village. Phrasing his.)
Gretchen: She doesn’t have much of an accent but I can see her coming from some swampy Southern state or another alligators typically inhabit. Georgia? Louisiana? We can probably say she’s not a Florida native because her parents are “enjoying Florida” as a visit rather than living there full-time, in “Hard Day’s Samson.” But maybe she’s also from whatever state Camp Kidney and Acorn Flats are in too, because one of her grandmothers recreationally swims, (if not lives) in a pond not far from them in “Taking Care of Gretchen.”
Wilbert, a.k.a. Beavy: Again, a New Yorker. “So, Monster, where ya frum?” (Fun fact: that was one of my first verbal stims, that line.)
Slinkman: He claims the swamp in “Edward’s Big Bag” was “just like coming home,” so wherever is typically swampy, that’s a plausible place. I know it’s a single throwaway line but it opened soooooo many possibilities. I wish we had seen more done with it! (also please check out @/deadbeandrop’s art of his parents. i’m looking so respectfully at slinky’s dad.)
Dave and Ping Pong: A lot of people claim it’s implied they’re from Canada but I don’t see it. Those of you who have read my “Loonlings” fanfiction on AO3 know I see them as being either from a New York or Connecticut suburb. I can’t describe it, but I often work in Sleepy Hollow, and the place just screams “them” to me. Maybe they live in a fictionalized Sleepy Hollow with a Murrayverse-esque name like… Dozy Hole.
Ms. Mucus: Texas. No question. Also she’s divorced. (No, that has nothing to do with this but I just had to stress it. She claims to have never met a man that wasn’t from another planet. Whoever her ex-husband is, I’m sure he lives in fear.)
