Episode 9 of Our Mutual Friend (1958).

It occurred to me that not everyone has read the book.  So as this series is heading into the home stretch, I better explain what is going on.  David McCallum’s character, Eugene Wrayburn, has is a ne’er do well barrister who has fallen for a working class girl named Lizze Hexam.  Lizzie has gone into hiding, and Eugene is desperate to find her.  He’ll even stoop to bribing a broken-down alcoholic (played here by Wilfred Brambell) with rum to get her address.

He’s also being stalked by a pathologically jealous man who is convinced he already knows where Lizzie is.  More on that in the next episode!
