Many people have heard this great song, ‘Save the Last Dance For Me’. BUT, did you know it was written by Doc Pomus, who at his wedding came up with this song while watching his wife dance. Doc contracted Polio as a child. He wore leg braces and spent most of his time on crutches or in a wheelchair. He met Willi Burke, a small town Tavern Owners daughter from Westville, Illinois and became infatuated with her. She was working in New York and wanted to be on broadway. He was introduced to her and somehow she fell for this older, heavyset guy with Polio. So now before you listen, imagine this older heavyset guy with Polio, watching his young beautiful wife dance at their wedding. You pretty much write the song in your head just thinking about it.
