The rustling of the trees in the wind calms my longing for Meeresrauschen, the sound of the waves at the shore. And yet, I want it even more.

Today I'm sitting outside, as I have been the last ten days as the heat beamed down. It's been too hot, really, but it's the first sitting-outside weather we've had this year. So I refuse to stay inside.

It's different, though, today. There are some clouds and a strong wind is blowing, portending rain and a drop in temperature. We did not get the rain, yet, and tomorrow is another hot day, but a change is finally coming and we will know normal May weather again.

Except it will be June.

Windy Days

I think wind storms

are my favorite.

As someone who also

admires thunderstorms,

it's a toss up.

I remember learning about

how tornadoes work

in middle school.

They had us watch twister

and I fell in love.

I'd go home and spout

information about them

to my mama.

The tornado sirens went off

on Friday evening

when we were picking up pizza.

I was excited.

I thought it was cool.

What were the odds

that a tornado was here

the same week

I saw twister?

Very high, actually.

It was tornado season

in Ohio.

Now I listen to the wind roar

through these thin walls

as I wait for the car to start.
