read the author’s note! really interesting genesis. love how specific this moment is (jason is dead, dick hasn’t met tim) and how in dick’s headspace the author gets, catching him as he’s questioning so many things. uses death stroke very effectively & keeps with his characterization from his original teen titans run, i think.

Tangled au is actually based on @/allineedisonedream‘s au, I changed just a few things :3 In it Dick is Rapunzel, Wally and Roy are both outlaws like Flynn and Slade is Gothel (and I love that 😂 you know how much I love it when Slade gets to play the villain) Definitely go check it out if you haven’t already, it's amazing!

I wanted to write something for it because I love the idea and the execution of it so much and so I’m working on it slowly! I won’t write the whole story A-Z because that would took me forever with how fast I write haha but I wanted to do a few scenes - something about Slade and Dick’s relationship, about Dick, Wally and Roy watching the lanterns together and maybe something about where they are on their way to the kingdom.

A little snippet 💕

“You know I’m doing this for your own good. The world is a dangerous place.” “But I could learn how to live out there!” Dick insisted hpefully, grabbing at Slade’s sleeve. “You know how to fight, you could teach me, I-” “Dick.” Slade interrupted with a sigh, making him freeze. “It’s not that easy, we’ve been through this already. I’m much older than you and have a lot more experience and yet I still get hurt every time I go out.” Blood from Slade’s last injuries still lingered on the floor in a few places where Dick didn’t get to clean up yet. And it was the truth – every single time the man left the Tower he got hurt, one way or another. If it weren’t for Dick’s hair healing abilities… Dick didn’t want to think about it. All the times he had to rush with the song so his father wouldn’t bleed out were difficult enough. “Well, yes, but you get to see the world! You get to-” “It’s not worth all that pain, Dick.” Slade shook his head with a frown. “And there’s nothing you can learn that would help you avoid it. I know the horrors of an outside world well and I try to avoid them the best I can but it’s not always possible.” He cupped Dick’s jaw and gently forced his head up. “I would never condemn you to that fate.” “I’m not saying about getting out and never returning here.” Dick tried again but it was more weak this time. “Just one day-” “You know that I only want the best for you, little bird.” He gently combed his fingers through Dick’s bangs. “That’s why you’re here. Away from all the danger. Safe.” Safe. Like a bird closed in a cage, where it can peak out through the bars but never taste the wonders of the world outside.
