Book two of four; In this book, we learn more about the characters- where they come from and their family connections. We also finally get to meet Hook and are teased about a future character that everyone seems to be terrified of.

Winnie, who is slowly finding her footing in Neverland, proves to be one of my favorite female characters I’ve read about. She’s not this all-powerful character, but she’s doing her best to hold herself together and prove herself to the boys. Although with the cliffhanger the book ends on, I have a feeling the next one is going to be very interesting.

If you love dark fantasy romance, you’ll love this series, I think. The story keeps you on the edge of your seat and anxious to get to the next page.

* Well, fuck. Peter’s shadow disappeared into Hook’s territory.

* So the two shadows are life and death, and the death shadow just fucking sliced Bash’s throat?! Wtf.

* Lost girls end up in the loft. Vane warns Peter not to do anything because Winnie will be pissed.

* Lol Winnie ran and mauled an unsuspecting Lost Boy. Peter is not happy.

* Damn. Peter really made her their whore and promised he will touch no other. She tried to blow Vane, but he refused. When she continued, he attacked..?

* Vane’s shadow takes over and he nearly kills Peter. Winnie gets him to snap out of it by accidentally stepping on a piece of glass. She ignores the pain but Vane sees the blood and takes control once more. He’s mad at her and leaves.

* So Vane can’t control his shadow because it wants to return to its land. He can give it up, but then Peter wants him to claim neverland’s death shadow. He refuses. Peter wants to call in Vane’s brother, he says no. Peter admits Wendy Darling never went back to the mortal realm, she’s in Everland and Vane’s brother wants her..? Vane and Peter are worried the twins might turn on them.

* Cherry is gonna be a problem when Vane finally gives in to Winnie. Calling it rn.

* Well, shit. Cherry is Hook’s sister.

* Yep. Definitely a problem. She doesn’t want Vane to want Winnie. This is not good.

* Oh fuck. Vane asked Hook permission for Peter to enter his territory to look for a lost Lost Boy. If he agrees, he gets his sister back and Cherry is not happy. Hook somehow knows the real reason Peter wants to enter his land and directs his men to look for Peter’s shadow. He intends to claim it for himself.

* Winnie plans to give Vane the cold shoulder so he’ll want her lol.

* Well fuck you, Tilly. I hope your brothers kill you.

* Vines are not supposed to do THAT! Lmao. And now she’s sitting on Bash’s face.

* Kas comes to the realization that he will choose Winnie over his sister, the court, AND his wings.

* Fucking finally! It’s about time you gave in, Vane. Even if you almost lost your shit and killed Winnie lol.

* If Cherry claims the death shadow in her room, I’m gonna be so fucking pissed. Don’t reward the pathetic girl.

* Everyone is making promises. One is bound to break.

* Fuck. Hook caught Peter’s shadow. Dude just can’t catch a break.

* Fuck you, Tilly. Attacking Pan and Winnie and your brothers.

* Fuck you too, Cherry. You’re seriously hoping the death shadow will kill Winnie? I hope the death shadow lets Winnie claim it. Fuck everyone.

* Anahahahaha. Holy fuck! The shadow claimed Winnie!!!!

* I have a feeling a person has to have been through some shit for the death shadow to let them claim it. We all know Winnie has been broken over and over, and Vane seems like he’s been broken in the past. I can’t wait to see this play out.

Meet sugars baby girl

Winnie Sanchez-Wingdings!

Winnie is the surprise child of sugar and his ex, Isabella Sanchez! Their relationship only lasted six months before sugar caught her cheating on him with another skeleton monster. Unknown to him, she was about a week pregnant with his child, Winnie. Bitter about being caught, and unsure if sugar was even the father, Isabella never contacted him after separating

Four and a half years later, Isabella walks into a monster owned salon to get a trim. She drags along a small four year old half-breed skeleton with her. Her hair dresser, pepper of course, is absolutely floored to meet a tiny skeleton that looks and smells just like his best friend.

Pepper stalls Isabella long enough for a confused sugar to arrive, wondering why his friend was so insistent on him coming over.

The second sugar laid eyes on the kid, his soul called out, clearly showing she’s his. And he was horrified. Isabella and sugar were luckily mature enough to take the fight outside (leaving pepper with a tired toddler lol). And it ends in Winnie’s mother all but abandoning her child with sugar right there. She at least was “kind” enough to drop all Winnie’s stuff at his place later that day.

For what feels like the 100th time, I tiptoe down the hall to check on her again. The door makes just the slightest squeak, and I freeze, listening for any sounds of waking. When I look inside my room, there she is fast asleep under the covers snuggled into that little stuffed bear. I can hear soft snores coming from tiny child. As quiet as I can, I tiptoe back to the kitchen.

“Let me guess, still asleep?”

Not expecting the voice, I jump and whirl around to see my older brother looking up at me expectantly.

“QU- shhh quiet!” I hiss out. Charm just sighs and flops on the couch patting his lap. I don’t hesitate, and lay down to put my head on it. He starts rubbing my skull the way he used to when I was little..

“She’s fine paps, you don’t have to check on her every five minutes” he murmurs. I know this of course but it doesn’t ease that bubble of anxiety in my soul. He must’ve guessed my thoughts by the silence between us since he starts speaking again. “You’ll have to sleep eventually you know”

“I Know! What Do You Think I’ve Been Trying To Do?!” I snap at him. The anxiety turns to guilt when the hand petting my skull stills. “I-I’m sorry… I just.. what am I going to do? I have n-nothing here for her.. sh-she’s scared and what if she n-never..” I stop feeling tears well up in my sockets again. Charm puts a finger against my teeth shushing me, then pulls me up so we’re looking eye to eye.

“Sugar- papyrus, it’s only been a day. Of course the kid-

“Winnie”

“-Winnie is nervous. She’ll warm up right away, I promise! This is you I’m taking about, you’re great with kids”

Before charm can say more, a small sniffle has both of us turning our heads. I practically leap off the couch to reach my daughter in the hallway. There she is peeking her head out the doorway. Her soft canary eyelights wobble as tears prick at her socket. I swear, I’ll never get over those puppy-eyes. It’s only been a day and already this little kid has me wrapped around her finger.

“Winnie darling~ did you wake up?” I purr out, careful to keep my volume under control. She’s such a sensitive little thing. Unsurprisingly I don’t receive an answer. Just a soft whine as she looks down and hugs her stuffed bear tighter. “Do you want me to tuck you back in?”

Her bottom lip wobbles. She looks up and reaches out. It just feels natural to pick her up. Winnie snuggles into my shoulder as I carry her back to my room. I can hear charms soft footsteps behind me, and the softer coos he makes at her. It takes a while but eventually Winnie is settled down and softly snoring again. Once again I had to cuddle her to sleep. Hmm maybe I should get her a weighted blanket…

“Heh, what did I say? You’re a natural~” charm’s leaning in the doorway giving me the smuggest smirk. I can’t seem to muster up my usual retorts tonight though. I don’t think I’m a natural, but I swear I’ll give this kid my all.

“Mm, I think I should stay here in case she gets up again”

Charm just hums in agreement. He disappears from my room and soon I hear the familiar creak of his bedroom door. Turning back to my daughter, I’m again blown away. Sometimes it still doesn’t feel real, that this here is mine. My baby. But no matter what, she’s here to stay. I just hope that I can be the parent she needs from now on.
