Two weeks after the solstice... Sunrise could hurry up a bit.
Tuesday, and I had to slip the run in before work cos they've organised a meeting over lunchtime. Usual 10k of canal and woods, but I had to head out across the park rather than through the local bit of wood cos it was too dark first thing. (See dark! So dark)
But running back, the sun was coming up and I was running into pink streaked and then orange glowing sky, so that was nice.
First snow ❄️! Woke up in a winter wonderland and decided that I needed to run in the first snow of 2016. It was a challenge to run on the slippery streets and trails - one part I love most about running is how it helps to turn every day, every run into a little adventure. I wasn't able to run anywhere near fast but I loved it. 8k on November, 8th. Yes!
My motivation matched the temperature today - which was near ZERO degrees (C)! But I ran in the pouring rain and it was unexpectedly wonderful. I planned to run 7k and ran more than double of the distance. Even though there are still lots of leaves on the roads this can't be called autumn anymore. Goodbye autumn runs - hello winter runs and cosy jackets!

2.2 mile run
Time: who knows
Pace: who cares
I needed to leave the watch at home; I need to do this more often. Yes, I am interested in the progress, but the weight of it can be distracting. It was cold outside, and the wind bit at our face. Reminds me of those sweltering afternoon runs we went on over the summer. The elements. You have to respect them. That's why I decided to keep up with the Monday runs; I wanted to feel the changing season, nature doing its thing, and me learning to adapt.
Does anyone else have problems coming back from downtime?
First run back from cross country, and call me crazy but I feel... out if shape. I know it's inevitable to lose SOME fitness, but I just kinda felt out of sync and it was harder to be mentally active. Is this just because of the two week break, or what? I know I've let myself slack off some on my break, but that's what it's for. Downtime. Rest. No pressure (yet).
-9 degrees outside
3.5 mile tempo run on icy, slippery roads. Arms frozen, lungs burning, legs burning, head clear. Needed that. Now water and a shower.
3 miles through ankle-deep snow. Didn't meet a single person, did two killer hills, and my fingers almost fell off because it was so fucking cold and windy and I forgot to put on gloves like the bloody idiot that I am. Still not back to my old pre-sickness form but I'm getting there.
