What is your current writing project?

okay so. CURRENTLY. I'm on a hyperfixation train for dqb2 (dragon quest builders 2). I LOVE IT. so naturally I created an AU for it after spamming the everliving hell out of the tag for the game because y'know. one-shot evolved its own plot. as they do.

and the one-shot in question was a masquerade ball! because of course it was. one scene evolved into a chapter, and then I realized the scene was too long, so I split it up between a few days, then suddenly I was looking at what essentially became a 22k prologue...

and THEN I wrote the following year following those two characters. (Malroth my beloved--) I actually just finished the first year on my ao3! :D like, literally last night lol. slow-burn, 164k or something bonkers like that, you get the drift. (I'd link but tumblr eats them or something?? my ao3 profile is the same as my username, it wouldn't be hard to find. or DM me :D)

SO. RIGHT NOW. I'm starting year two. WHICH WILL BE FULL OF DELICIOUS ANGST. because I am mean to my characters. :D I mean D:

so yeah. year two will have a wedding! and a near-miss of a wedding! and because Malroth is the prince (because of course he is) he has to do princely things! (he's been in hiding up to this point so he could be "normal" at university because why not). and maybe get kidnapped by pirates. good times!

but until then I'm literally stuck in chapter two because I don't know how to start a book apparently. XD (I'm supposed to be writing cute fluff. this should be easy! why am I worried about "proper hooks" when this is the second book and nobody will be starting here? brain please just write fluff. any fluff. even if it doesn't make it to the final draft. I BEG YOU.)

There are several lines about taking notes to find out what love is as if one were researching, and they get crazy looks for asking friends. Ex:"From the notes that I've made so far, Love seems something like wanting a scar, Well, I could be wrong, I'm just not sure you see I've never been in love before"

I assume you like classic literature, Lovecraft, puns, that you want to study english or writing in university.

I love it when I get the time to read it, I appreciate his writings and characters*, ABSOLUTELY, and I am currently minoring in screenwriting!

*Lovecraft is my dictionary definition of “problematic fave”. Did he basically create a new subgenre of science fiction and horror whose themes and characters have been incredibly influential (cough cough Stephen King cough cough)? Yes. Was he intensely racist even by the standards of 1920s New England and also a big heap of misogynistic on top of that? Definitely. Was he even that good a writer? Debatable.

One of my friends summed it up best: “You’re either a Lovecraftian or a Lovecraft fan.” Meaning, you either enjoy weird fiction and the contributions of the Cthulhu Mythos and the Dream Cycle, and you acknowledge that he’s a decent writer but a sh*tty person and there are many better authors of the subgenre that you should spend more time on…

OR you are obsessed with the man and completely refuse to acknowledge his flaws as a writer or as a person.

I accidentally wrote my first fanfiction in grade two, not even being fully aware of what fanfiction was. Always loved getting to write short stories in class (parental unit had us reading and writing before preschool, etc.), and there was this one that sticks out in my head that I die over even now.

Basically, I’d been given the first two harry potter books for xmas or a birthday, can’t recall which. About 7/8yrs old. Free-form short story time, right?

Well, I, and my best friend Bethany (no idea where she is now, gods bless you bitch), were trying to get to Hogwarts. But Vampires! Kidnapped us, and put us in tanks full of sleeping gas!

But harry potter helped free us to fight back! And we all went to hogwarts!

And also started the Wonder Woman YA book, a pirate book, and am trying to reread ASOIAF, but I am one person who also wants to play vidya games and work on cosplay stuff, so those are on hold until we finish the readalong lol.

My other favorites are anything by Rick Riordan, The Lunar Chronicles series, The Diviners series, ASOIAF, and several standalone books including The Island and the Ring and American Gods and a bunch others haha.
