Safe and Sound.

It sucks how nothing is comforting right now, absolutely nothing.

It's past 2:00AM and I am incredibly tired, stressed out, and anxious. And yet, I'm having trouble falling asleep, because nothing is capable of being a comfort to me right now.

For whatever reason, over the years, I've developed a tendency to retreat to my safe place before bedtime. It can be an actual physical place, a thing, or even a person. It's not always the same place or thing or person, but there is almost always a safe place. Almost always; 98% of the time.

Nights like these are rare, and much dreaded.

Even the thought of you isn't a comfort tonight. Neither is the thought of you. Or you. Or even you.

It's frustrating. And maybe it's time to kick the habit, to just be able to sleep without a bedtime routine, but it's the only way I know how to let my guard down, to allow myself to become vulnerable, to slip out of consciousness -- by feeling completely, 100% secure.

... but now I'm thinking of what to do with all this time I set aside -- wasted, on -- you.

Hello, world. I guess it's time for an update.

I regretfully inform you that I haven't been collecting as many 'warm memories' as I'd have liked to. Instead, I decided to bury my nose in my textbooks and hibernate beneath my lecture notes, so to speak.

The workload is getting heavier and heavier still, as the terms go by. Five weeks remain till exams drop by and deprive us of any and all forms of fun and rest.

I'm 'hanging in there'; I hope you are too.

Here's hoping.

Here's hoping for comfort. Warm beverages in pretty mugs, comfortable sweaters and blankets, good movies and music, a book that leaves me teary-eyed yet smiling, and meaningful conversations. I'd really like this winter to be memorable for all of the good things it brought along with it.

Here's hoping for love. Be it in the form of a friend, or a lover, or a relative, or a pet, I'd really like not to feel completely alone this year.

Here's hoping for a year well spent. Come December, I'll be finishing up my very first Law school exams and flying back home to my family and friends. I'd really like for all lose ends to be tied up, for all heartbreaks to be forgiven and perhaps even forgotten, and for all friendships to be mended.

Here's hoping for a good winter. Technically, the seasons don't change in the little part of the world that I occupy, but I'd really like to melt the ice that has formed around my heart.
