For context, this is a 2017 movie called "Wish Upon". Basically it's about a bullied teenager girl, who has a crush on the high school jock and has a trash scavenger for a dad. Oh, right, did I forget to mention that she's poor as fuck? Yeah, add that.

SPOILER ALERT

This girl makes 4 wishes. I litterally just watched the movie, but I already forgot who died and how. By the 3rd wish they find out what is actually happening, her dog died, her uncle died, her neighbour died, and an Asian woman died.

The Asian woman, is the niece of a boy that crushes on the mc. They went to the Asian woman to decipher what stood on the box since it was written in ancient Chinese. By the time the woman deciphers it, she died and her nephews finds her a few days later (or next day) dead.

He read what stood on the box and immediately confronted the mc about the box. Warning her to get rid of it. But she didn't. She told her friends about it. The friends SHE ditched after she got popular, which she wished for by the way. Her wishes are teenage childishly stupidity.

- wished the hot guy had the hots for me

- wished I was the most popular girl in school

- wished my dad wasn't an emberassment

- wished I was rich (isn't childish, because I wish that too. It's just that they did nothing really with the money. They immediately splurged it away.)

- wished the mean bitch queen bee rot away

Less childish wish

- wished my mom didn't commit suicide

- wished everything back to how it was (which she died by right after)

Those same friends, she ditched accepted her with open arms back. Listened to her ridiculous story. (To be honest, if it were me, I would've thought she became such a bitch. Thinking, her previously good mentality couldn't compete with the rotten side of her, so she couldn't help but blame something and a mysterious box fits the case.) but they didn't. They even advise her to get rid of it because by getting rid of it or giving the box away, all wishes are nulled in a way.

She didn't, she makes a wish and her friend dies. The friends that asked her if she truly took care of the box, and she said she did. But she didn't. Now her other friend (I shall call X) who is still alive is scared of her and cusses her for lying and killing their friend.

X steals the box from MC's home, to the point it drove mc mad. Mc didn't know yet, that X stole her box, simply that it was stolen from her bedroom. All her wishes are nulled yet the people that died, stayed dead. She found it in her friend's locker and fought X so hard for it. X explained how the girl makes it unsafe for others.

Because litterally random people die close to her. X tells her she has 2 little sisters that could die or depend on X to make a future so X her family life has it a bit easier. But mc didn't want to listen. Mc basically shoves X down a flight of stairs, the boy whose niece she just murdered, cusses her out. He ran after her to explain how she is endangering others with that box, etc. She threatens him she still has 2 wishes and will use it against him.

So many people hold her back, yet she still remained a bitch. Then she made a wish for mommy to return, then her dad died. She wishes everything back, that took her life.

This part is important tho: before she made her final wish. She finds her mother's canvas with the music box drawn on (mom hung herself when she was around 10 or so) and HAS THE AUDACITY TO BLAME HER MOM FOR ALL THE DEATHS THAT THE MC ACTUALLY CAUSED. The mom also made use of the box, but she threw it away and hung herself. Her dad found the box in some dumpster far away, and gave it to his daughter as a gift since the girl did Chinese classes, and the box is Chinese.

I can forgive the mc for those first 4 deaths. She doesn't know her wishes caused those deaths. But even met with the truth, she showed no pity, nor remorse. Even continued on wishing. Threatened others. Yet she had the audacity to blame her mom who was now dead for a decade, more or less. Blaming a dead person for her mistakes and greed.

This bitch basically reminds me of Lily and snaters. Hence, Lily and snaters be like:

Because snaters and Lily give always him the fault. James being faulty? No. That's the whole thing. People involved with lily, the majority of them don't even find the marauders faulty. But god forbid someone wearing black 24/7. Snape didn't even do shit to marauders, yet they shit on him. Snaters do that too. Lily didn't do shit for Snape, yet has high commands for him that are impossible, and when he says those are impossible, she blames him for being faulty. But god forbid her precious bloody red students to be faulty.

Controversial thought: only reason I can accept those gryffindors as red is because they are a target of death, and died, and dying means blood, so their blood is nicely spilled. Talk about foreshadowing lol.

I honestly don’t know what to think of Wish Upon. I first decided to watch it because I saw a short clip on YouTube, and it seemed intriguing. the idea of a cursed music box granting wishes felt like a fresh take on the horror genre, so I gave it a shot. I love music boxes. they’ve always been fascinating to me. in fact, I have a big collection at home, though most of them are broken now. in Malaysia, we don’t really have a lot of variety in terms of tunes. most of the ones I own just play Für Elise because Malaysians don’t know much about classical music other than Für Elise and honestly, it’s overused. my mum always found my music boxes creepy, especially when I played late at silent night when everyone’s sleeping. watching this movie with her didn’t help at all, and I ended up feeling more unnerved by her than entertained. back to the movie, the music box is definitely creepy. it doesn’t matter what time it plays; there’s something inherently unsettling about it. the premise of the story is exciting, and I felt genuinely intrigued at the beginning. but as the movie progressed, I found it emotionally draining. it’s not terrifying in a traditional sense. it’s more about the unsettling atmosphere and the emotional toll of the events.

one thing that really struck me was the sheer number of deaths in the movie. I’m no stranger to gruesome visuals. I’ve seen my fair share of true crime documentaries, medical dramas, and slasher movies; but there’s something different about the deaths in Wish Upon. maybe it’s the way they happen or the fact that Clare’s wishes seem to trigger them indirectly, but it leaves a heavier impact. what frustrated me the most was Clare’s character development. her personality changes so much throughout the movie, and it’s clear that the more wishes she makes, the more she loses herself. it’s not easy to watch someone’s moral compass deteriorate, even if it’s fictional. this might be why the movie feels more exhausting than entertaining for me. in the end, Wish Upon isn’t a movie I would enthusiastically recommend. it’s an interesting concept, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. it’s emotionally heavy and frustrating to watch, even though it isn’t particularly scary. If you’re into movies that explore the darker sides of human nature, it might be worth a try. for me, though, it’s not one I’d revisit.

Plot: A teenage girl discovers a box with magical powers, but those powers comes with a deadly price.

Going in, I already knew this movie was gonna be a hard one for me. lol Joey King's character is just so incredibly unlikeable and selfish so that right off the bat was a challenge. I get her character is still dealing with loss and school's hard for her, but to make the decisions she makes... At the point when it's quite clear that her wishes are killing people and she still does it anyway, I was done with her. Sorry to Joey since I'm actually rather cool with her as an actress but the script was doing her no favors. Now I gotta talk about how insane that cast is because wow, sooo many familiar faces in here! Pretty cool thing in an otherwise unpleasant watch. The kills are kinda insane as well if that's any consolation I guess but honestly, I was mostly annoyed and bored throughout. Not to mention, the very ending (mid-credits scene) had me fuming because it has one of the characters who was smart make a dumb decision. Now given there's plot context missing that makes it so that decision is possible but it's still annoying when you remember his stance the whole movie about Claire's wish-making. Anyway, this was a mess basically. lol
