hnnng anyway here are the thoughts about When Light Left Us

1) Thank you?? @cuttoothom for Orson Liu cause as a second gen chinese living overseas his character was like. Really Validating. And stuff. I actually cackled at Grandma Liu’s antics, because it was honestly a play by play of what goes down when I bring guests over at my own house.

2) Maggie Vasquez what an icon. The Macdonalds Vanilla Latte confrontation was Really Something. Also I literally have never read a YA book which depicts a mother like Maggie Vasquez and it was so? Refreshing? Like? She was such a bad mother and such a perfect mother at the same time it was heartwarming/real/lovely all at the same time.

3) The gratuitous anime references... God this is PEAK LITERATURE

4) As I found when reading BYNMM and NNY, I loved every single character. Like, you just gotta fave the entire cast, supporting characters and all. Like... Penny? My child. Platinum? God I wish I were her. Ms Yu? Completely wrong about the morality of house cats but an icon nevertheless. Even the villain is just really fuckin fascinating.

5) As soon as ***SPOILERS*** Henry Flowers talked about a missing daughter i literally said to myself, I bet it’s Dr Ruby. When Orson drove Hank from the basketball courts I literally said to myself “They would make a cute couple.” Ya girl’s a psychic! ***END SPOILERS***

6) If you liked BYNMM you should check this out! If you like strongly character based scifi check this out! If you want to put yourself through an angst train but then finish with a smile on your face check this out! If you like diverse YA novels check this out! It really is a book written with love :)

After suffering 4 family deaths in the span of 7 months, my anticipation for this book has been one of the few things that has kept my head above water. I can’t wait to read it! Guess who isn’t sleeping tonight.
