Could "Champ vs Cyborg" be the next big women's MMA fight? Invicta FC featherweight champ Megan Anderson (left) crossed paths with current UFC fighter and longtime consensus top 3 female mixed martial artist Cris "Cyborg" Justino in Las Vegas Saturday. Both fighters were in town for the UFC's "Athlete Retreat". (Image Credit: @criscyborg / Instagram) It seems like the face-off between the current and former Invicta 145lbs title holders was mostly in good fun. Anderson has been particularly vocal about her desire to challenge Cyborg, one of MMA's most skilled strikers, since winning the interim belt back in January. Although Cyborg finally made her long anticipated UFC debut a year ago in May 2016 -- in true Cyborg fashion, she demolished Leslie Smith inside the first round -- she continues to be locked in an eternal cold war with UFC brass. The UFC seems completely incapable of properly promoting her or even begrudgingly giving her the match-ups she deserves. They actively disparaged her for years as she laid waste to virtually every notable female MMA fighter in the sport's short history. Now that she's in the UFC, they still find subtly passive and laughably intentional ways to snub the former Invicta FC and Strikeforce champ. I'm not saying this is the right time for this fight to happen from a competitive standpoint. Anderson has been fighting professionally since 2013, putting together a respectable 8-2 record. She looked particularly impressive in her TKO win over Charmaine Tweet; the performance earned her the Invicta FC belt, but something tells me it's a little early to toss her in with Cyborg, arguably the most physically dominant female fighter in the sport. Still, it's almost absurd the lengths to which Cyborg must go in order to get the respect and the opponents she deserves: tracking chicks down on a Saturday night, posing in mock face offs when they're both dressed to the nines, then tweeting it to the UFC matchmakers, literally doing their job for them. Cyborg will certainly be a heavy favourite if they sign this fight, but I'd watch it in a heartbeat. #ufc #invictafc #mma #wmma #cyborg #featherweight #athleteretreat #lasvegas #wmeimg (at St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador)
