sky and wren
By the way, it is literally so easy not to whitewash characters, especially if you're being paid to draw them.
On a completely unrelated note, here's Wren WoF, featuring Sky!
Unsorted WOF thoughts part 160:
A list of reasons why The Dangerous Gift is probably my favorite book in the mainline series and definitely my favorite book in arc 3:
We finally get to check up on Pyrrhia and see the aftermath of arc 2.
The reveal that Tundra was really just a repressed weirdo, even by IceWing standards.
Glacier's death wasn't meaningless or for shock value.
Snowfall's PTSD isn't ignored.
Snowfall gets to be dramatic as hell in ways that are as hilarious as they are sad.
Snowfall and Lynx spend literally like 80% of the book by each others' sides.
The reveal that Winter wasn't actually banished by Snowfall, and Snowfall subsequently calling him a drama queen (she's one to talk.).
The reveal that Crystal wasn't plotting anything, and was literally just hanging out in Sanctuary. (IceWing royalty just LOVES to assume the worst in their family.)
More Qinter.
It introduces Wren.
Snowfall becomes the most informed character in the series, making her pov worth reading through.
We finally get an explanation and justification for the disappearance of animus magic in a way that makes sense.
Mink.
"It was inside you all along." Played completely straight finally. I'm tired of novels that hate tropes.
The book ends with Snowfall literally smashing racism and classism to pieces with her fists.
i wonder how Sky feels that Wren, who is older than him in years, who is the one that raised him yet isn’t his mom, his only friend for almost his entire life, the one who he has grown up with his entire life, is technically younger than him. Sky is an adult dragon (8). Wren is a teenager (15).
i wonder how he feels about humans aging so much slower and yet so much quicker than dragons. i wonder how he’ll feel decades from now, when he is now aging slower than her yet in the past he aged faster. how will he feel a century from now.
Wren is older than him by 7 years and yet she is still a child and he is not and she is the one that raised him.
i wonder how he feels
Absolute Wings Of Fire
Absolute Phyrria is a continet where the light struggles to surface. It is a greater struggle for good to succeed
The Ice Kingdom has been the most prosprous one. With its two animi dragon it has prospered and grown pushing on the outer edges of the sand kingdom the only thing holding them back, Queen Glacier. Her scalpel is Qibli the scorpion somone to be sent in to take care of problems that will effect her in the future.
The Rain kingdom has fallen. Three years ago the nightwings invaded and conquered the kingdom. Glory was young when the invasion happened in order to survive she took her sister kinkajou and fled while Jambu stayed behind to buy them time. The mud kingdom now has a population of fleeing Rainwings who live in small villages on the outskirts of the kingdom. In the capital clay a doctor has been married to Breaccia but he longs for more and a different life.
In the sky kingdom an all out hunt is enacted looking for the runaway flame scales, along with the flamless dragon and the scavenger that travles with the flame scales.
The sea kingdom is under the tyranical and iorn fist rule of Queen Orcha and King whirlpool. It is said thag with her animus powers Orca made her self ans her king immortal. I cannot stress how important it is to read Dragonslayer between Book 14 and Book 15 I swear it makes so much more sense where the heck Wren came from.
Although I will say, it takes till the middle of the book to get interesting. And then again, the info-dump before the main climax is important context FOR the main climax in such a way where it kinda pays off to read all of that because the rest of the story wouldn’t really make sense without the already given background information.
Based take: the book is overhated and also super underrated in the realms of story building.
I've had this stuck in my mind for so long
