Wolf & Bunny Pt. 5

Day 153

Fuck, your teeth hurt so much. Your heart thumps in your ears as someone somewhere babbles at you. It's hard to pay attention when your teeth ache so badly that it's splitting your skull open. A noise escapes your lips and it takes you a moment to realize you've just snarled.

It startles you enough to snap back into reality- sitting across from you shitty boss, who's now recoiled from you in horror. You try to apologize, shame and embarrassment washing over you in icy waves.

"See," she hisses, jamming an acrylic-ed finger towards you, "this is what I'm talking about. I'm sorry, Louisa, but we can't keep you on when you're scaring customers and other staff like this."

Your face falls as the fight rushes out of you. This is bullshit. You know it's bullshit. But what can you really do about it? Nothing stops them from being allowed to let you go like this. You hand over the uniform shirt that was always a little too small for you even before your body structure started shifting.

Walking back to your beat up truck in the middle of the day feels surreal. Your body has gone a little numb.

Bunny calls while you're stopped at the drive-thru picking up something to make you feel better. With your luck, you're fully expecting that they'll tell you the ice cream machine is broken because the universe hates you like that.

"Hey, Wolf Girl!" her voice is like a soothing balm for your soul.

"Hey...Honey Bun," you are made of cringe. You swear it sounded cooler and sweeter in your head. But, it does make her giggle, so maybe you're not that bad.

"I was gonna see if you wanted to make dinner plans tonight. Are you working?"

Shit. You bite your lip- it actually hurts you now that your canines have been growing larger. "No...I...uh...got fired."

You have to hold the phone away from your ear as Bunny lets out an angry, hellish shout.

"I knew it, I fucking new it!" she yells, "I got such a rancid vibe from every one of those bastards."

Bunny had been your plus-one at a holiday party, which the two of you had promptly ditched after she pointed out that everyone there gave you both a wide berth while staring the entire time. How your coworkers treated you had become a regular topic of conversations since then- usually punctuated with plenty of expletives on her part.

HONK HONK

You're startled back into reality by the inpatient driver behind you. As you pull forward you smile as you picture the version of Bunny that lives in your head flipping them off.

"I'm sorry hun," the real Bunny says, "that really sucks."

"Yeah," you sigh.

"Have you thought about what you're gonna do?"

You haven't, which fills you with dread. However, a burger joint drive-thru hardly feels like the right place for an existential crisis, so you shove down the feeling to deal with after you've eaten.

Bunny politely declines your offer to get something for her. "I've been mostly craving greens lately," she giggles. Seems you're both going through changes of appetite- you currently want to devour a mountain of meat. You settle on a triple patty burger with animal style fries.

"Put it on the card I gave you," Bunny says. "And before you try and fight me on this: I am treating my girlfriend who's having a bad day to a meal. So take your pride and shove it, wolf girl," you're addicted to the way she teases you.

It's a little strange dating a woman who has her life together. At least as much as it can be for a therian in the current climate. Bunny doesn't talk much about her family, but you've gathered that she comes from money. She gave you a card after you'd been dating for a few months. An argument almost broke out when you tried to refuse, and the two of you ultimately settled on it being "for emergencies only".

Needing to eat after you get fired from a job you're pretty sure was slowly choking the life out of you but which you needed in order to pay rent probably counts as an emergency.

"Hey, I just had an idea!" Bunny shouts as you drive away.

"What?" you try to ask, but the burger stuffed in your maw makes it come out more like a "Wmph?"

"Do you remember my friend Daria?"

"Mmm?" Please stop trying to talk with your mouth full, dingus.

"She's the Borzoi girl from that bar I took you to, Instinct."

Oh right, the girl with all the fur in clips who stared into your soul. "Mmm!" you respond.

"She mentioned a few days ago they were looking for barbacks. Maybe I can see if she can set you up with an interview?

Working in a bar? Surrounded by people and noise and smells and angry customers and bar brawls probably (you've only been once, but you've seen how rowdy bars can get in movies and on tv, right?) and who knows what else?

"Yeah, sounds fun," you say before your anxiety winds you into a coil forever.

"I mean," you can hear her lips curl as her voice comes over the speaker, "unless you're finally ready to let me be your sugar mama."

Choking to death on a burger because your girlfriend flustered you would be a hell of a way to go, but you manage to get down what you didn't accidentally spit out. Bunny's twinkling laugh as she hears you sputter and cough makes you feel like maybe everything can turn out alright as long as you have her in your life.

I feel it would be quite emotionally draining and overstimulating. Mel is very manic while Cas is quite overstimulated by everything.

As for fur Mel is giving up shaving and Cas is just in constant shock-
