another little thing that makes me laugh in The Wonderfools besides the ‘having a man and woman alone at night is dangerous’ ‘dangerous for who?? for me?!’ while eun chae-ni just cheekily nods is how as annoyed as he is by suddenly having new roommates, he doesn’t kick them out but instead stops wearing his white tank top in exchange for pajamas. like this man really said he’s going to preserve his modesty.😩
9/10....cutting point because I wanted more and that'll be solved if they do the sequel like the end of the show hints at.
Absolutely cracking team of dumbasses. Eun Chae Ni to me was delightful simply because Eun Bin cannot be disliked anyway. Cha Eun Woo has finally got me. I get your appeal dude. Keep wearing tank tops and get injured in your shows to aura farm. That surely works for me. Choi Dae Hoon you absolute gem. Always so much fun to watch him devour every character ever. Im Seong Jae I don't know you yet but you were hilarious.
The story was nothing spectacular but the execution was. Neat and rightly paced. The comedy was so rightly done. Also it looked so cinematic.
This was the first promotional material and this is the exact vibe of the show. They find the only one who knows anything and bully adopt him to be more human.
been watching wonderfools (excellent) with my dad and he's never commented on anyone's looks in any of the dramas we've watched before but he seems genuinely struck with how goodlooking cha eunwoo is 😭. Brought him up completely unprompted several times on call with my mom to talk about how handsome he is
Eun Chaeni and Lee Un-jeong zapped into existence in the middle of his apartment, her arms still banded tightly around his chest, bodies pressed together even after they realised where they’d ended up. If anything, she squeezed him more aggressively, as if making a point. His ribs were still sore and the rest of him wasn’t much better either, but he didn’t care - the pain reminded him that she was here, she was tangible, she was alive.
“Sorry,” she said sheepishly, but he could hear the smile in her voice, betraying the fact that it had been entirely intentional. “I got excited.”
Picks up mere SECONDS after the credits roll, read it HERE!!
On crack because the genre is comedy, but also because the show only has 8 episodes and they stacked all the epic moments, all the cool shots and all the tropes that you would expect from a superhero show into those 8 episodes
The end result is a very nutritious meal, or better said an equivalent of 8 shots of espresso, each very intense with action scenes as well as heartwarming moments
Because it’s a comedy they take every opportunity to lean into dumb jokes, and it should feel cliche and overdone and cringe, and yet
It still works, dammnit, they still make it work which almost makes me mad
They take a superhero storyline which you’ve seen done a million times and still manage to tell a hilarious, coherent, engaging story with epic fight scenes, that makes you fall in love with and root for the characters
————————————————————————
The year is 1999 with the expected milennial apocalypse around the corner, and the story follows three friends who accidentaly gain superpowers, but throughout the whole story their key defining characteristics is that they are dorks and losers
(Fair warning that you might want to stop reading here, I introduce the characters and plot below and mention some tropes it uses, I don’t think I say much more than the trailers do but given the short length of this show you might want to avoid knowing more than the basics)
We have Son Gyeong Un, who has never done anything succesful in his life and is looked down on by both his wife and daughter
Kang Ro Bin, whom they call a Big Sap because he’s very emotional and doesn’t have the courage to stand up for himself
Eun Chae Ni, the manic pixie goth dream girl
Main heroine whose heart is failing and with her days numbered she doesn’t care much for proper behavior, the townsfolk call her Lady Trainwreck
-
All these three do the whole show is bicker and create chaos and comic situations
A kidnapping gone wrong leaves them with a dead body, creating an avalanche of messy situations, including accidentally gaining superpowers. They need to figure out what triggers the powers in order to learn how to use them
Then we have this guy, Lee Un Jeong
The biggest thirst trap that ever walked the Earth, and they even give him Clark Kent glasses to make him look more nerdy and adorable
It is so on the nose and I’m still eating it up with a spoon, gosh I’m so mad about it
(Watch it for the plot and all that)
Anyways, this guy is the only one with braincells in this show and he also already has his cool telekinetic superpowers mastered, so the others make him their master and pull him right into the middle of their shenanigans, very much against his will
Telekineses is imho one of the coolest abilities you can have on screen and they milk it for what it’s worth
This guy is, as the youngsters say, aura farming in every shot he appears in
The producers asked themselves How do we make this man the hottest one on the Earth, and you know what, they did, they delivered
Anyways, whatever you can think you’d like to see in a superhero show, you can find here
Antagonists with superpowers and questionable morals, who can mess with you not only physically but also mentally? Check
Superhero team walk with epic music and explosions in the background? Check
A mad scientist villain? Check
Tragic lab accident origin story? Check
Heroically saving the day in the last moment? Check
And more superhero classics

To conclude, if you’re feeling in the mood for a comedy take on superheroes which delivers everything that makes superhero stories fun, I highly recommend Wonderfools
A story about a bunch of super loosers, trying to master their newfound abilities, survive attacks from superpowered villains and save the world in the process, all while delivering slapstick comedy and one liners at every opportunity
