On Disturbing The Peace:

Once more the Bazaar has come and past and we had another amazing turn out! Laughs were had. Gil changed hands, and in generally people all seemed to enjoy themselves a good deal this time around which always makes us happy. 

We at the bazaar have a hard fast rule. You are allowed to steal and or engage in criminal activity so long as all rules of proper OOC conduct are followed. Refuse to do this and we will boot you from the event. No excuses. It makes the event more enjoyable for everyone and often leads to some hilarity as well, as our Maelstrom Officers get to actually flex their muscles from time to time. 

However two incidents happened today that we would like to highlight as they both exemplify the two ends of the spectrum for how we like to deal with criminal activity at the bazaar.

The first was someone arriving to pick pockets, emoting out as they did it without permission from either the staff or the people they were robbing from. When told that there would be IC repercussions and that they would have to roll against the guards.in order to see if they escaped. Rather than listen to this the person logged out immediately, much in the same way as what happened during our first bazaar. 

This is precisely how NOT to engage in criminal behavior with us. We want everything to be fair and people to have a good time. If you pickpocket you have a chance of getting away for that very reason. We don’t want to meta-game and ruin the immersion. Yet if you refuse to work with us and the people who attend the bazaar, you are directly ruining the immersion for other people. Especially if you run away without accepting the consequences. This will earn you a ban from future events, as it did in this case.

We -want- to work with you. We want to make these events as fun as possible for all involved. Yet if you don’t work with -us- then we honestly have to put the comfort of our other patrons first.

Had this been the sole incident of the night it would have left a sour, if easily ignored taste in our mouths. For we all remember the incident at our first event and how it soured some of the community due to our lackluster response.

Yet thankfully later in the evening we had another incident happen that showed precisely how to handle this sort of thing. An attempted kidnapping of all things. However where as the first person did not engage us OOCly and logged off immediately to avoid repercussions the second group did the exact opposite. They contacted us. Kept us updated throughout the entire thing. Accepted the potential consequences and even MORE importantly, ASKED PERMISSION FROM THE PATRON THEY SELECTED BEFORE ENGAGING. All willing and able to back off if none of these steps were met.

This is how we would like to see future ‘incidents’ handled at the Bazaar. While this is in -no- way an invitation to cause trouble. We hope that others can learn by the example set by the second group so that everyone who attends can enjoy the event to the fullest.

If you have any inkling of pulling something like this off in the future, please remember these steps.

1. Contact an event organizer. This needs to be your first step.

2. Talk with us about the matter OOCly so we know what’s happening and can allow it to grow organically from there.

3. Accept that there will be consequences if you are caught, but that you have every opportunity to get away if the rolls are in your favor. (Grindstone rules.)

4. Once permission is secured from us. Get permission from your ‘mark’ and have them contact us as well to confirm it. WE WILL NOT ALLOW THINGS TO GO FORWARD WITHOUT THIS STEP. NOT EVERYONE WISHES TO PARTAKE IN THESE KINDS OF SIDE EVENTS AND WE WILL NOT FORCE THEM TO DO SO.

5. Sit back and have fun!

We want the bazaar to be as fun as possible for all types of people and have seen that this system works really well when followed. All we ask is that future attendees think of their fellow patrons first before attempting anything and to respect the rules of OOC etiquette.
