Working Class Man by Jimmy Barnes
Yes, I have
I haven't, but I've heard the song
Never heard this song
Themed Sunday: Fire!
Inxeba [The Wound] (John Trengove - 2017)
https://youtu.be/erSJGrpfnOI
He's a simple man
With a heart of gold
In a complicated land
Oh he's a working class man
There’s a lesson to this, but I don’t know what it is
I was at some sort of ‘leadership/proactive learning/enablement/something equally fluffy’ course for work once, and the trainer says “Alright, now for the next part, I need just one of you to stand up and sing the national anthem, and we can’t go forward until someone does.” Cue twenty people exchanging awkward glances. Long silence. So, since I find social tension a lot more painful than just performing, I stood up and belted out a little of ‘Advance Australia Fair’. Got about halfway through a verse before I realised I was doing this version:
🤷♂️ Eh, good enough.
(The trainer then told me she’d actually meant to make some sort of a point about people not volunteering when there are other people who could do it instead. Spoilt that for her.)
“Aren’t you ashamed having a common factory hand for your husband?” “Yes, I am ashamed...but when Mat kisses me, nothing else matters!” (Boy Loves Girl 28, 1952). “Furthermore, at least his head is normally shaped, unlike your flat-topped, boxy-skulled boyfriends! And look at those muscles! Yes, I like the rough, uncouth, he-man type, what of it? You know you’d love to have him smear grease all over you, admit it!”
The Working Class Man
The man behind the meme ‘Big Enough’ / 'screaming cowboy’, is the iconic Legend of Australian music, cultural icon, and front man of Cold Chisel - Jimmy Fucking Barnes.
Here’s a surprise live appearance during a Keith Urban cover of Cold Chisel’s hit song 'Flame Trees (Last Stand)’. Live Original here: https://youtu.be/BtmbHdtO3iE
Check out some clips on YouTube for more unbridled awesome from Jimmy and Cold Chisel. (Also check out the many incredible covers of Flame Trees).
And just as a cultural sensitivity thing, if you ever mistake Jimmy for just a punchline, Australia will fucking hate you.
