I've been digging for treasure in my old cases, recently, hunting for cool conversions and interesting war materiel left by my younger, wiser self. This Beastman, for example - built to be a necromancer for my Vampire Wraithfleet after my original seadog necromage got left behind in (I think?) Warhammer York. Now I'm wondering about making this brayshaman the core of a little undead Beastman force - maybe an allied detachment for Horus Heresy, or maybe another Regiment of Renown for my Dogs of War Cities of Sigmar army. I'm going to prep a few of these old, forgotten projects for the new year. For now, though, with autumn fast approaching, I really need to rattle off the last of my 2022 hobby resolutions! #warhammerkitbashing #warhammeraos #warhammerfantasy #mordheim #ageofsigmar #wraithfleet #legionsofnagash #necromancer #brayshaman #hobbystreak #hobbystreakday281 (at Wakefield) https://www.instagram.com/p/ChgYTMMotG6/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
It's time to say goodbye to my Mortis Engine conversion.
Many of you will know this miniature as its one of the first I put online when I started blogging and getting stuck into the hobby again. The story I developed for my Wraithfleet conversions was (and still is) a collection of vengeful water spirits and monsters being led by a resurrected ships captain.
To represent the Captain, I decided to use a Mortis Engine, converted into a kind of ghost ship. While I like the direction it's going and how it's turning out, the size has always been an issue for me. Given the base is not the same scale as the miniatures surrounding it, it does look more like a large rowboat than a powerful flagship.
Enter @tea_wild_owl (on Instagram). This fantastic fellow also had the idea to build a ghost ship Mortis Engine and that’s originally why I started following him on Instagram. Then he did it... He cracked the code.
By using the Gloomtide Shipwreck he made two Mortis Engines which could be displayed together to represent one giant ship. It's beautiful. And being made by Gamesworkshop is more in scale with the other miniatures.
So I’m going to scrap my current engine and salvage it for parts. Thanks to the family I have a Gloomtide sitting around waiting for me to use and will start by using what I have to get started on this project.
But don’t worry I will still be using (most) of the parts from the previous version. I originally was going to build a Necrofex Colossus using the front half of the Gloomtide, but it is WAY too big for what I want. However, the model I used for the engine is just about right. So I will be harvesting its parts and what I don’t use for the new Mortis Engine I will be kitbashing with a Treelord to make the Necrofex.
I plan to use the Necrofex as a Terrogiest in games, so I’m currently working out how to mount the new Archregent model that was revealed at Open Day as a mounted Ghoul King for it as well.
Super excited to get stuck in on both these projects.

So... Sawing it in half was the right call. Lighthouse tower is coming along nicely. Still have to finish framing the windows, gap-filling and makin the roof removable. Want to be able to replace the LED and more easily do the windows. #Wraithfleet #warmongers #armiesonparade https://www.instagram.com/p/CCXW2eJn2Pr/?igshid=17ygqg7pvrbtk
Wiring/Lighting test on the lighthouse build. Now I can build the housing. #Wraithfleet #warmongers #armiesonparade https://www.instagram.com/p/CCHZXJ8nxdb/?igshid=10q8c9ekp4z4g
Behold my madness made manifest! Took longer than planned but everything is cut and glued together. Once that has had time to dry I can start making the cliffs with sculptamold. In the meantime, I'm gonna work on converting the citadel into a working lighthouse. #Wraithfleet #warmongers #armiesonparade https://www.instagram.com/p/CCFA-qvnvrm/?igshid=1n634qrikw3vo
Da beast, she GROWS! Picked up some foam yesterday after work and managed to squeeze in the last few cuts today before bed. Probably do an other test do with the set pieces to check size then glue it together so I can atart sculpting. #Wraithfleet #warmongers #armiesonparade https://www.instagram.com/p/CB7JwVHnq46/?igshid=18gs6yvd2lwb8
Well drat. Got about half the height I needed out of one sheet. Gonna have to make a run to Home Depot for more foam. Fairly happy with the progress so far though. #Wraithfleet #warmongers #armiesonparade https://www.instagram.com/p/CBj6kx9Heea/?igshid=1af7vzs4c1au6
