Anita chose her first name and once she did, her ethnicity was set. I knew one of her parents would be Hispanic. She chose her mother, and that made her father the white-bread. So her last name had to match that. We went through a lot of last names before she became, Anita Blake, but from that moment she was alive to me, in my head and on paper. Names are a creative tipping point for me, until I have the right one the character is just words on paper, but afterwards, it’s magic. #lkh #lkhamilton #laurellkhamilton #writer #writing #reading #writersofinstagram #authorsofinstagram #anitablake #merrygentry #characters #names #Wednesday #wodensday #humpday #WritersWednesday #writingtips #names #namingconventions #maincharacters #protagonist #hispanic #biracial #mixedheritage #choosingtherightname #nameyourbaby #creation #creative #creatingcharacters #inspiration https://www.instagram.com/p/B6N3tdDAFfG/?igshid=gac879akyqeb
Morning Sun
The sun streams in through my bedroom window. My alarm went off a while ago but I still haven't moved. The sun's rays warm up my toes that are exposed to the bedroom air. I wiggle them and giggle, remembering how scared I was at the thought of a monster from under my bed biting my toes off. Staring out the window, I think of how now the monsters I'm most scared of now hide in plain sight. I sigh and drag myself out of bed, already behind on my day.
If we visualize a story as a line of dominoes, we can envision the Midpoint as a turn in the domino design. The line of reactions from the First Half of the Second Act finally whacks into that domino at the turn--and begins a whole new line of falling dominoes. #writetip

43 Hours Later. I haven't been getting much sleep lately, even though I feel like I've been hella lazy I still don't feel like I get enough sleep. Oh well I might as well keep dreaming . #WritersWednesday

"Who are you?"
I repeat the same words over and over. A broken record that's volume is turned up each time it skips. "Who are you?" "Who are you?" Each time it's spoken, the more desperate the plea. It still hasn't answered me for what feels like hours but in reality only moments. It just stares. Blank, a canvas with no paint. In all honesty I can't tell if it's staring. It has no eyes. Just darkness where eyes would typically go. Red molasses like blood dripping from the darkness. I should have run but it's presence demands to be acknowledged. I ask with tears one last time, "Who are you?". Child like laughter echos. My abdomen wrenches in pain. Still, it just stares.
