Me, today.
not about reading habits, but what are three things you do in your writing that you like/are proud of?
Ooof coming in hawt with the tough questions @harrenhollaback ❤️
I think the biggest thing I’m proud of in my writing is my commitment to a scene. Sometimes, dialogue doesn’t flow as well as you expected or the atmosphere feels out of place. But I strive not to give up if I have a certain vision in my head. It’s why sometimes writing feels like an albatross around my neck and I’m not always satisfied with the end result.
I’m also pretty proud of my flexibility when it comes to outlines. As @thelandofnothing knows all too well, I could outline until Kingdom Come but half the time, the characters guide me in the direction they want to go, and I don’t fight them on it :)
And finally, I think something I’ve worked very very hard at is balancing descriptions against dialogue. I could go on and on and on when I get into a characters head, but writing Arya in particular has challenged me to focus on action too.
I've changed my Instagram profile picture to this one of me standing in front of the amazing Corpus Christ Chronopage which was one of the principal inspirations behind the title of my YA novel The Curse of Time. Been busy formatting my manuscript for kindle today. I never imagined how difficult this process would be. But, I reckon it's one of those time consuming, frustrating processes which will give me an enormous sense of achievement once I have succeeded. Well I hope so! It better. But don't hold your breath....still lots of promo posts to do on my blog in the lead up to the launch. Exciting times! #writing #editing #formatting #kindle #selfpublishing #determination #keepontrying #YA #writer #writerwoes #learnnewskills #indieauthor #exciting #life #sohappytobeanauthor
Any other person's writing:
The precious moment flew by in the variant times, appearing as though it had not occured, unnoticed to the point of invisibility.
My writing:
Nobody noticed what happened.
Y'all, we've all been through this. Writers block is hard, but it's a must. Procrastination is on your agenda. Are you ready for it? We can get through this together.
The Challenge of Writing Marauder Banter! 😩
Confession time: Writing Marauder banter is the BEST but also so incredibly hard! How do you capture that perfect blend of quick wit, inside jokes, and underlying affection without making them sound like a bunch of stand-up comedians or entirely too saccharine? It's a delicate balance, and sometimes my brain just short-circuits from the sheer amount of chaos I'm trying to put on paper! Send chocolate. 🍫
My Heart is Full (and a little bit frazzled!) Writing Hope's Story! 😩💖
Writing this new fanfiction about Hope Potter and Sirius Black is a dream come true, but also... whew! Crafting those intricate Marauder dynamics from a new perspective, and building that slow-burn connection between Hope and Sirius? It's a joyful challenge! My notes are a chaotic mess of timelines, witty comebacks, and pure, unadulterated angst. But every word is worth it! Wish me luck (and maybe send some chocolate owls)!
