Hope's Diary Entry - 3

December 20, 1977

Winter break is here, and I'm exhausted. It's been a tough semester, with NEWTs and the growing worry about the war. I keep thinking about what Remus said back in the Hospital Wing last year, about me being someone "large" and "bright". It's the kind of thing that makes me feel like I matter.

I spent a lot of time this year with the girls in our common room nest. Lily charmed candles to float around us, Marlene ate Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans, and Dorcas brought out her smuggled herbs. Lily braided my hair and put little silver star and moon charms in it. It's those small moments, when we're all together, that feel like home.

I feel like I'm finally finding a balance between the chaotic side of me and the quiet side. Everyone sees the loud part, the one who runs around with the Marauders, but sometimes I just need to be quiet. I have my guitar, something just for me. I have my stargazing and my pressed flowers. This year, I’m trying to embrace both parts. Lily told me that this year, everyone would finally see me, not James, just me. I hope she’s right.

Hope's Diary Entry - 2

September 1, 1977

We're back. King's Cross was the usual mess of screaming and chaos. James and Sirius were immediately in their element, yelling for Remus and Peter. I felt a familiar wave of being in my brother's shadow, but I also felt a quiet determination. This is my year. I'm going to prove I'm more than just "Potter's Little Chaos". My room at home already looks the part—books on astrology and botany next to my favorite Muggle rock posters. I can’t wait to dive into more advanced Divination texts.

On the train, the boys were already causing a ruckus. They hexed Snape’s robes bubble-gum pink. Of course, McGonagall showed up. I had to step in and try to talk my way out of it, which I’ve gotten pretty good at. She told me I was doing "too much right… for all the wrong people". It stung a bit, but I know she’s right. I'm always saving their skins. But it’s hard not to, they’re my family.

I found the girls and we crammed into our usual compartment. Lily gave me a hug that felt like coming home. Marlene was talking about The Runaways and David Bowie, and Dorcas was already getting out her herbs. It was nice to just be with them, listening to their chatter. They don’t see me as just an extension of my twin. They see me as Hope.

Hope's Diary - Entry 1

August 15, 1977

The summer feels like it’s stretching on forever, but it’s already got that sad, end-of-summer taste. It’s warm, but there’s a coldness just under the surface, a whisper of things to come. Dorcas mentioned some whispers about a dark wizard rising, and the attacks on Muggleborns and Half-bloods have me on edge. It’s easy to forget when we’re all at the lake house, sunburnt and barefoot, pretending we’re just kids.

I was braiding daisies into Dorcas’s hair when Sirius, being Sirius, picked me up and carried me into the lake. He called me the "Queen of the Lake" and said he’d welcome me haunting him if he dropped me. I swore I wouldn’t get sucked into his charm, but standing there on his shoulders, with the sun on my face and his hands on my knees, it was easy to forget everything. For a second, my heart actually skipped a beat. It's a stupid, illogical crush, a part of me knows that, but another part of me feels like it’s a bad Muggle soap opera I can’t stop watching.

I just wish the world didn't feel like it was closing in. I went to the Astronomy Tower tonight to get some air, to just sit and look at the stars. Remus found me. He always finds me. He said he saw the way I was looking at Sirius at the lake, and he knew I was scared of what that could mean. He’s my emotional anchor, and the only one I can really talk to. Sometimes, it feels like we're the only sane ones in this whole chaotic mess.
