For the writing asks! 1, 19, 30 and 33! c:
1 - Which of your fics would you keep the basic plot of but rewrite completely? All at sea probably! I feel rather ‘here’s an idea I have but don’t have the skill to execute’ about it, which is probably why the third chapter is still languishing on my laptop.
19 – Share a snippet from a wip without giving any context for it.
“And then there’s me.” Eames smiles again, that same tight look of self-assurance. “I am the luckiest man around, because I don’t leave things to chance.” “So you… what, fix fights?” “Nothing so crass. I just… facilitate.” “You’re crooked,” Arthur accuses, what Eames is alluding to clicking into place, the way he’s played right into Eames’ hand making his face heat in embarrassment. “I prefer bent, darling,” Eames replies, smile shifting to sultry, and damn it all to hell because Arthur feels his face flush with flustered attraction into the bargain.
30 - Describe a fic that almost happened, but then it didn't.
Errrr…. Kushiel’s Dart AU. Eames is a thief and pickpocket. Anguissette. His bond was purchased but he got himself kicked out, probably for killing somebody who was paying him. Mixed up in all this is the idea that he’s done something to stop himself getting harmed, but that this was also blasphemous, because this is service to naamah, but he didn’t want it and killed the guy.
He got kicked out, he has half a marque. He wants it finished but he also doesn’t. He goes to somebody different every time, so it’s a disjointed thing, that he hates and loves. He wants it ‘finished’ because he feels like half a person without it, even if it ends up being all over the shop in terms of style. He’s covering up what he is, denying it, or trying to. He has a messy, disparate marque on his back, made of different styles and with no cohesion.
He fights what he is at the same time as wanting it, and Arthur SEES him, as he is. Arthur says things like ‘I want to be able to look at you and know I put the rest of this mark up your spine’. When it’s nearly finished he comes on the back of Eames’ neck. ‘Love as thou wilt,’ says Eames bitterly. Ultimately, Arthur gives Eames the space to grow into not being ashamed of it. Mumble mumble something about exploring changeable and malleable characteristics (he’s a forger – even if that doesn’t exist in this universe, it's fun to consider ways it might be translated in a different world) through the ‘limitation’ of something immutable (anguissette).
33 - Give your writing a compliment.
THIS IS THE HARDEST. Er. I feel like there’s a big underlying seam of self-acceptance running through a lot of what I end up writing, a feeling of ‘it’s okay, and if it’s not we’ll work it out’. Is that a compliment? It certainly would if somebody else said it to me, so I’m running with it :)
