Run
A young elven woman ran through corridors and pathways until she reached outside. She continued running with all she had in her. The castle was large and the chaos of bombarding attacks did not help matters. She knew she had to escape somehow without being caught, injured, or seen. She ran until her lungs ached and her legs finally gave out. She collapsed nearly to the ground until she felt a pair of strong arms catch her. She knew those arms without even turning around to look. She let out a sigh of relief and allowed herself to be held for a short time while she caught her breath and regained her strength.
“Are you alright, Princess Rosaline?” Came an equally familiar voice. She looked up to meet the eyes of her bodyguard, Akiya, who had been trailing behind her the entire time, keeping her safe. She felt small in the taller woman’s arms but she did not mind. She was quite fond of her, after all. They bonded well over time and she always felt safe with her.
“Of course,” Rosaline replied with a weak smile. “Thanks to you.”
“I’m only doing my job.” Akiya returned her smile and helped her stand. Voices could be heard nearby, shouts asking where the princess had gone.
“Can you keep going?” Akiya asked, concern showing in her voice. The princess nodded.
They continued running until they left the castle completely behind. They found a safe house deeply secluded in the woods. No one would think to look there, or so they hoped.
“This would have been a lot easier if we had just used one of the carriages.” Rosaline complained once they were safely inside.
“Too obvious, we’d have been followed for sure.” Came Akiya’s response, as she set down a large bag full of things to keep them tied over until things were calm again.
The princess let out a heavy sigh. “You’re probably right.”
“I usually am.” Akiya said with a grin.
“Well, aren’t you just full of sass today?” Rosaline laughed jokingly.
“You love it, I know.” Akiya grinned wider.
The princess mumbled something under her breath, looking down at the floor. Her previous smile now faded to a look of worry.
“Relax, everything will work itself out. Just enjoy our time alone.” Akiya said, giving her a small peck on the forehead. Rosaline’s eyes softened as she looked up at the taller woman, resting her head on her chest. Akiya wrapped her arms around her. She certainly hoped she was right.
