No tears in the writer, no tears in the reader. No surprise in the writer, no surprise in the reader.
Robert Frost
Take a writer away from his typewriter and all you have left is the sickness which started him typing in the beginning.

Half my life is an act of revision.

Requests for purple prose!
I am currently in the process of co-authoring a book on writing with another author. A section of the book deals with the concept of purple prose in writing and we would love to include a few examples.
If you feel so inclined, hit me with some of your best purple prose! We have a few purple-y character descriptions but would love to include some scenic/setting descriptions. If selected, we’ll include your passage in the book (with your name of course) and give you a free copy of the book! At this point we are looking for two passages, no longer than five sentences.
Email me at [email protected] with your best purple prose. ;]
My list of Monthly Writing Exercises
The writing world online has seemed to be booming. There seems to be all sorts of writing exercises and monthly events that are happening. Being someone who just loves writing lists, I want to just share the list of events that I either know about or am trying my hand on this year. (My career responsibilities sadly and my triathalon goals are taking a bigger priority, but I am just fantasizing in the time that I have with my long weekend and break from grad school)
January-- @whumpuary (not trying this, I literally found out about it five minutes ago)
February-- @febuwhump I am going to try this in the form of a prompt journal that I was given for Christmas a few years back and have not touched.
March-- Four by Flash-- @writrs in 2014-15 created a thing called Four by Flash-- Four weeks in each month of March, June, September, December, where you spend each week developing a flash fiction story. I have always wanted to do it and always failed. The premise was try your hand at it and by the end of the year you will have 16 new short stories written. I always liked the visual of it, the way their website was structured, and thought it was a great idea.
April-- Camp Nanowrimo-- need I say more? @campnanowrimo
May-- Nothing, just enjoying life and working on projects
June-- Another round of Four by Flash!
July-- Another round of Camp Nano
August-- Same as may, just enjoying the summer and writing what I can.
September-- Another Four by Flash!
October-- @inktober but I try to use this as just “Nano Prep” period.
November-- @nanowrimo I do not think I need to introduce this one. I just try to write as much as I can in that time period. I have never come even close, I think my most was 28k.
December-- End the year with a final Four by Flash.
It’s a lot of prompting and a lot of writing. There are a lot of plans, but I always appreciate what I get done that I never originally intended to.
I feel like I am a much better writer, from plot to knowing WHAT I want to write. And even though 90% of that still involves Bionicle fanfiction, it is a much clearer picture and more defined stories. I also feel better at time management than when I was in my early 20′s too, so hopefully I can hit the big ones this year.
So just as one writer out to the writing community and beyond, I invite you on this creative journey in 2023.
Drop other events you know about in the comments!

This past week, I was discussing with a marketing friend about not having enough time in the day to do everything that needs to be done and still find time to write. She suggested I start thinking …
Apparently, in the entrepreneurial small business/side hustle world, IPA stands for Income Producing Activities. These range from networking to live Facebook videos where you sell your wares to family and friends. And then there’s the follow-up, the cold call, the upsell, the list goes on and on.
