Wrongfully terminated blog
@staff @support My blog name was @theartofabigail
I can’t seem to get the attention of Tumblr support so I’ll do this the Tumblr way and write a blog post on my long-abandoned backup blog.
I’ll start with some relevant background information; I’m an artist (and a miserably broke college student) trying to turn my art into a business. I’ve been working strategically to expand my presence online. I bought a domain for a website and created an email that I could use for my art business. The only thing left to do was to create a Tumblr blog connected to these resources so that I could put my work out there for the world to see. I got lucky. The exact blog name I wanted was available! Lucky me!
After getting all of this set up, I let my blog sit while I created content to share. Finally, when I have enough content to be ahead of my planned posting schedule, I return to Tumblr only to find that my blog has been … terminated? (Information I had to dig to find, because when I attempted to sign in, I received an error message rather than a message that my blog had been terminated)
I was confused, so I did a little research on Tumblr’s terms of use. As it turns out Tumblr can terminate any account at any time for any reason, but they assure their users that they only use this power when their terms of use have been violated. Needless to say I feel less than assured.
I contacted Tumblr support, informing them of the issue and my lack of conscious wrongdoing, especially considering that I’ve done nothing at all with this blog, wrong, right or otherwise. The only response I got was an automated email assuring me they would respond as soon as they can. I was less than assured. I asked how I could resolve the issue and how to keep this from happening in the future.
Days later I’ve gotten no response, no inkling of progress, and no way to know if my emails have even been read. All of this is time I need to build an audience for my work, link with other social networking sites, and eventually make money with my art (my dream since I was a kid).
At this point I’m very confused and dissatisfied. Tumblr has always been my favorite social networking site because it’s been a massively impactful tool for creative people. I would have liked to be informed that my blog had been terminated. Perhaps Tumblr could employ a system of using the email associated with the terminated account to inform the user of termination. It would also be incredibly useful to know why blogs are terminated. If I knew what the problem was I could avoid future blog termination, but I don’t know how my blog could have been terminated for a violation when it hadn’t been used yet.
Until the issue is resolved, I’ll be posting my unfinished works in progress here. Finished versions will be available on my original blog, intended for my business, whenever that blog is again available.
If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. I feel like I’ve done nothing wrong and encountered an egregious setback for an offense I didn’t consciously commit. @staff @support
