Seeing @aviolm’s drawings of Wu made me so happy (it’s very stimmy for me) that I wanted to write something fluffy and happy about Wu; and of course what’s Wu without Garmadon?
Waiting for You (I’m always here)
After having rain for a few days straight, Wu happily welcomed the sun.
He gave himself the enjoyment of eating breakfast outside. The sunshine upon his face was quite comforting and refreshing after having been holed up inside.
After enjoying his meal in the courtyard, he briefly went back inside to grab a book. It certainly felt like a day for a story, something narrative.
Then, for the sake of escaping the area as much as possible without having to leave the mountain, Wu climbed over the monastery wall to the ledge behind it. He settled down there, leaning against the tree. He created a cup of tea and with one leg crossed and the other dangling off the cliffside, he began reading.
An hour or two into his reading -he wasn’t entirely sure how long it had been actually, but the sun had significantly moved in its positioning- he heard singing coming from somewhere.
For a moment or two, Wu let it be -the fact that he could hear singing from on top of the mountain away from civilization wasn’t clicking in his mind. As the voice got closer he recognized the song. He began humming along before finally realizing what exactly he was hearing.
It was something he’d only ever heard among his family; his father had sung it to him and Garmadon every now and then. He doubted the language it was sung in was even alive anymore.
Wu also doubted that it would be their father walking up the stairs, and so that only left…
“Garmadon!” Wu excitedly whispered to himself.
As quickly as possible, he scrambled to his feet, in the process knocking a few teacups -which had accumulated over the hours- off the edge.
He paid them no mind, thankful he hadn’t dropped his book, and shuffled along the edge to reach the doors.
Sure enough, when he arrived at the front, Garmadon could be seen coming up the last section of the stairs.
Wu couldn’t help himself.
“Garmadon!” he shouted as he dropped the book and ran down to greet his brother.
Wu hit him with more force than he meant to, and he could tell by the way Garmadon stumbled a moment that he hadn’t been quite prepared. But Garmadon readjusted quickly and returned his brother’s embrace.
“Hello, Wu,” Garmadon said wrapping his arms tightly around him. Wu could hear the amusement and imagine the smile on Garmadon’s face.
“I’m so glad you’re back!” Wu said still holding on, hugging even tighter. “It’s feels like you’ve been gone forever!”
Garmadon laughed and pulled away. “It really does. But I missed home. And I missed you,” he whispered giving Wu’s hand a squeeze.
“I missed you too,” Wu said smiling, squeezing back. “It’s so good to see you!”
Garmadon nodded. “And it’s good to see you. Were you waiting for me?”
Wu shrugged. “Yes and no. I’m always waiting for you to be back; I’m always here after all.”
Still holding Wu’s hand, Garmadon leaned forward and kissed Wu’s forehead. “Well, I’m glad to be back.”
Wu nodded and pressed their foreheads together. “And I’m glad about that,” he whispered back.
Thank you for reading!! I hope you enjoyed!! I loved writing this and I’m really happy to share!!
(Takes place after their father has died, but before Garmadon goes to train under Chen; that’s a big gap, I know, but the idea is that Garmadon would often leave the monastery to see the world because he hates staying put, but Wu would stay behind; also this is COMPLETELY PLATONIC…sorry for rambles!! Explanation felt necessary!!)
