A Jar of Clay

Just as an amateur writer envisions a grand and compelling story, yet lacks the competence to connect pen to paper, or writing to spirit, so too will this blog unravel to be. Nonetheless, I will ENDEAVOUR to express the story in all it’s splendour. 

The topic given to me is none other than “my 5 downfalls”. So here’s a compilation of things I’ve found that are my weaknesses. It’s quite interesting when I was actually given this topic, that I couldn't think of any! HAHAHA. 

SO FIRST ONE: IGNORANCE. LOOOOL

Although I’d like to think of myself very observant and at times, discerning, many times I’ve failed to read ‘between the lines’. (like I'm supposed to... gummon to be fair why don’t people just say what they mean and mean what they say. Anyway that’s a rant for another blog!) Here’s a classic ‘Ez is blur like sotong’ moment: To a wonderful friend I always have looked towards for, and that is assurance of our friendship! It’s obvious that we’re friends but the thought that runs rampant is ‘what if we become strangers again’ :P

Twoosies twinzies~ Copy Cat: I pick up well from many of the peeps above me.

My dad was telling me yesterday that my bro was complaining to him, “hey dad, Ez calls me a nub but he copies everything I do - same career in health and fitness, same clothes, same hairdresser...” LOL yeah.... Its my #littlebrothersyndrome no shame right. Well why is this a downfall? Well I actually thought it was majorly a good thing! But for the sake of this lets find a disadvantage. I heard once that we can sometimes ‘play’ out ourselves too much by copying others that we end up forgetting who we are. But then again I’ll argue with this, because we are inherently a product of our family and our friends.

Three pee! Disorganised... like really disorganised.

One of the greatest compliments from my parents have been actually that they help me realise my flaws. A wise man puts it “Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses.” And many times my mum would call me out on my untidiness and disorganised state. To rebut though, I’d say its not just a constant state of disorganisation, but a perpetual state of growth and transition haha. I’m always growing for more, and growth is messy.

Five.... wait no four - Forgetful.

Man if I remembered how many times I got called out on being forgetful, then I’d be able to calculate the millions of dollars I’d get if i got 5 cents for every time i got called out. But I’ve lost count, or have I just forgotten... See this is what I'm talking about :S AHAHA maaannnn.... I just broke into laughter writing that coz i remembered talking to one of my friends where I’d just shared a story with her and nek minute she's like I heard this already... twice... LOOOOL GG no re.

Legit 5 - Lacking in consistency, carefulness, candor and counsel.

The four marks of a true friend as supposed by Tim Keller - consistency, carefulness, candor and counsel - summarised in this “A friend always lets you in, and never lets you down.” Time and time again I have failed my friends. But it’s amazing that true friends pick each other up, love and forgive! And so I’m so thankful for my amazing friends, all of you!

So what’s with this title Jar of clay? Very nice la, good question. A jar of clay’s purpose is to be a vessel to hold water, but as it gets older it cracks and leaks and loses part of its functionality. But I guess that’s the point? I’m a jar of clay. I’m fail, cracked and broken but at least what flows out is some more love, some more joy, and some hope.
