Thinking about how the only times my folks ever braided my hair was when I'd go on a long trip. 5th grade camp, that time I went to las vegas. . . Really wish they'd done it more often.

music feels oops
i mean not that the listening is unpleasant or something
but the first time i listened to fall out boy was when my brother was getting into his moody teenage years and listening to linkin park and all that crap so, being as fall out boy has ridiculously angsty lyrics without sounding all softcore, i was hearing fall out boy a lot
i liked it because it was fun and rollicky
but rediscovering it this past year, looking through the surface to see the brilliance and pain behind the wordplay
it's stepping through broken glass
"listen, kiddo. listen to the music you were raised on side-by-side with tom petty and metallica and u2. listen to the hurt beneath every line and the anguish beneath every chord.”
some of the songs you know are sad because of the way they sound
“i’ve got a dark alley and a bad idea that says you should shut your mouth”
And the poets are just
Kids who didn't make it
And never had it at all.
We can fake it for the airwaves Force our smiles, baby, half dead From comparing myself to everyone else around me.
and “what a catch, donnie”
I got troubled thoughts
And the self-esteem to match.
like it doesn’t get sadder than that
but other songs you look at the lyrics and you’re like “ow—oW NO”
“20 dollar nosebleed” sounds like a happy bumpkin ditty but then
The man who would be king goes to the Desert the same war his dad rehearsed. Came back with flags on coffins and said We won, oh, we won!
it’s just when you actually think about some of the lyrics or when you know the story behind the song (looking at you, “7 Minutes in Heaven”), all of a sudden it’s like
welcome to the real world, jackass
it hurts
but the way the music and the lyrics fit together just so is incredible and i just want to squish wentz and stump together and be like
you guys
you’re so
fREAKING PERFECT WHY
