[also, me: "WWED... wwed... wed... yes, she would. You, in fact."]
WWWD, What would Wednesday do?
Up until last week my only knowledge of The Addams Family came from Adult Wednesday Addams (that parody webshow on YouTube). And I never had an issue with that. But after watching Wednesday on Netflix I feel like I've been sleeping on a truly magnificent character.
okay so i just finished "When Women Were Dragons" by Kelly Barnhill and !!!!! new fave book!!!! oh my god i'm absolutely obsessed and i need to scream about it into the void for a sec.
the premise is basically a united states 1950's au where one day, hundreds of thousands of women spontaneously transform into dragons, many burning their (abusive) husbands, bosses, and homes, and workplaces to the ground, and then disappear. FUCKING INCREDIBLE. the way it handles misogyny is heartbreaking because it's absolutely true for that time period (and today). it places so much emphasis on the shame women are TAUGHT to feel about anything and everything feminine, and how frustrating it can be. IT'S QUEER!! it has super strong Jo March/"women are fit for more than love" energy and i'm just. absolutely floored by this book. if u like reading PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE READ IT and then come back here and scream about it with me🥰 now i'm gonna go annoy every person in my life by never ever shutting up about this book
