Xander: We Just got onto the helicarrier. From what we can tell these only host JARVIS.02- Smarter than the one in your average Stark Phone but not the personal smart AI that Tony Stark has himself. Which is good, we should be able to skim some of the data we need off before we're noticed... Gonna have to sift through it all but Scott is down to help us with that- it was his bug in anycase. But first blending in... Mimic wants corndogs.
hide and seek....but if you find the tiny you get to eat em.....👀
“A...game?”
I stare at the tiny in my hands, you look back up at me, eyes wide and pleading. You nod
“You want to play a game?”
You nod again.
I think for a moment, “it’s not very beneficial to me...I already have you, and what if you’re too tired to squirm afterwards? I’d rather enjoy my meal when the adrenaline is pumping”
Your pleading smile turns into a frown as they look for an answer— it makes me smile, the fact that even in the face of a giant you’re still determined.
“Okay I’ll give in” your head snaps up as I relent, surprised “dinner and a show wouldn’t be too bad”
“You go hide, I’ll come and find you—You win, I’ll let you go” you look at me with a disbelieving frown “I am a giant of my word darling, I promise I will let you go if you can stay hidden”
You smile slightly, though that smile doesn’t last for too long—
“However” I bring you closer, a widening grin on my face “if I win... let me give you a taste of what’s in your future”
You gasp, pushing away from me as I bring you so close—you can feel my body heat.
Though you pause as I bring you to my neck—instead of my mouth as you expected.
I push you against my skin—resting on my Adam’s apple. You can’t see what I’m doing, though you can feel my body move as I pick something up.
All of a sudden, you hear the deafening gulping noise from my thoat as I drink some water from a glass, you feel my Adam’s apple bob up and down as the water slides down my throat.
I chuckle as you squirm “are you sure you want to play this game, Im sure you’ll like it in there, I’ve been told it’s quite...comfortable”
You stumble through another plea, though I stop you, pulling you away from my throat so I can see you face to face—“alright! Alright! A game it is—you’re so cute, y’know that?”
You blush—flustered at the back and forth between us. I chuckle as I put you down onto the ground
You look up at me, as I stare down at you with a grin on my face “you get one minute”
You don’t move for a few moments, staring up at me—“if I don’t find you in 30–it’s freedom for you”
You smile, that would have to be enough time for you to escape.
I cover my eyes, smiling softly “one...two...”
As I begin counting, you begin to run, I don’t know where you go, but I do know I have a leg up on you.
As I breathe, I can still detect the faint scent that you have.
You really think I would let a meal as wonderful as you go?
Am bored and this idea has been percolating for about 12 hours now, so enjoy:
I have decided that the Circles of Magi have gardens or courtyards where they keep silkworms. Silk is a luxury, sure, and they can make money selling it the same way they do enchanted stuff, but it also serves a practical purpose. the main reason mages leave the Circle is for battle, after all, and if you're a mage, your foremost concern is getting shot with an arrow because you're (hopefully) far enough away that nobody can get to you with their sword or axe. Silk is really strong! and if you put a few layers together it starts to be a pretty good defense against puncture wounds. Add to that the quilted-looking chest pieces you see on some of the women's robes, and you have a pretty decent light armor. maybe you can't use runes on cloth the same way you can metal armor or weapons, but bet your ass you can embroider them. imagine magic channeled through the motion of spinning the fibers, of the embroidery needle moving in and out of fabric. Spinning lyrium into thread so the weave of the fabric has a strange, subtle gleam.
anyway there wasn't really a point to this I was just cobbling together a cohesive robe look for a drawing I did of one of my Wardens and couldn't stop thinking about this
ok ok ok. i meant to write this out like 2 hours ago but then i started making chili and got distracted.
There is something so interesting to me about the tone of Graduation. It doesn’t put me in mind of the other thing Travis GM’d, namely Dust, but I think there’s lines to be drawn between the two. He said at the outset of that mini-arc that it was probably going to be darker than Balance or the other mini-arcs, because of just the nature of Urban Shadows as a game system, and the structure of it, the story of it, was! But the way that Griffin, Justin, and Clint played it brought a warmth to it that sort of balanced out the tone. I enjoyed Dust, and I’m enjoying Graduation, although Balance is still the crux of the special interest keeping me here lmao. What’s going on with the tone of Graduation feels almost - /almost/ - the opposite. It is very much presented as a more lighthearted story. The theme music alone points us in that direction - it’s cheerful and playful and not to wax poetic or nothing, but it sounds like a summer morning. Here’s this fun story about some students at a magical school! Isn’t it zany how much law and bureaucracy is tangled up with these ideas of heroism and villainy? And it is. The characters - both the PCs and NPCs - are fun and goofy, the storylines (at first, anyway) were low-stakes and funny. But from almost the start, there was an undercurrent of something much more serious that has come to the fore in the past six (?) or so episodes.
The reason I find it so interesting is because this arc manages to strike the world’s most delicate balance between very funny goof-off actual play and serious, meticulously plotted fantasy/mystery. And Griffin, Justin, and Clint play into this tone /so well/. I feel like there’s something to be said for learning from experience. Travis tried to do something very serious, and found that it didn’t jive with his family’s style of play, and I think with Graduation, he has managed to find a place where he can do both. Graduation is serious, but it doesn’t take itself seriously, and it makes it just genuinely so fun to listen to. I listen to The Magnus Archives, which is at I would say the /most/ serious part of a pretty serious story, and since both it and TAZ drop new episodes on Thursday, I go from TMA to TAZ over the course of a couple of hours. And I end up just as fucking gobsmacked by the things happening in Graduation as I am the things happening in a podcast taking place in the middle of the literal apocalypse. Graduation manages to be both serious and extremely goofy at the same time, without compromising either element or feeling dissonant. It’s fantastic.
