Ok Loreley, let's do this!
I'm a huge Xantcha fan, she's my favourite mtg character and the first commander deck I built. Have you come across some interesting Xantcha decks? Like, a really good one, or really unusual one, or really bad one?
I, in fact, had a Xantcha deck. The driving philosophy of the deck was simple: Push the game to a conclusion as fast as possible. This broke down into three main groups of cards:
Acceleration: Things like Mana Flare so that everyone has mana to cast impactful spells. Things like Howling Mine so that everyone can find impactful spells to cast.
Aggression: Force people to attack. Either they break someone else's back or leave themselves open to counter strikes. I don't care which, so long as the damage flows. Goad was a huge part here.
Passive Clocks: Cards like Sulfuric Vortex that stop lifegain and constantly damage everyone. "If this sticks around, the game WILL end." This was also finishers like Exsanguinate, which I could cast to seize a victory once everyone was bloodied enough.
Xantcha herself does all three of these things. I think most accurately, it was a group hug/group slug deck. Was real fun to play, especially going in knowing that victory wasn't always the goal.
