Belbe vs. Ashiok
Magic: The Girlbossing, Round 1, Match 2
Who is the most girlboss?
Belbe
Ashiok
Propaganda under the cut:
@somewhere-south-of-neutral have at thee:
Belbe, Corrupted Observer (Commander Legends) - Igor Kieryluk
Cosplayer, Tarmokat, captured Belbe spectacularly.
Rate atraxa, glissa, and/or Belbe.
OH MY GOD she is my most favorite new phyrexian design ever. you have no idea. she is also my favorite commander and the leader of my beloved phyrexian tribal deck. she is absolutely majestic. breathtaking. ephemeral. effervescent. my #2 waifu (after vannifar).
also got compleated by 4 praetors at once, the lucky bastard.
1000/10
her incompleat self looked cool i guess, but this? nothing could compare to this. compleated glissa has me acting u n w i s e . those dripping oil tears, the scythe arm, the c l a w s. oh lord i could look at her all day. ALL DAY. are you trying to give me a stroke by sending me pretty phyrexian women?? it’s WORKING.
100/10
another compleated golgari phyrexian zombie elf? curious. as i mentioned before, i do tend to like new phyrexia more, but belbe is also quite neat. love the art. i would wife her.
25/10 a very good elf
Commander Legends references pt. 7/11
Belbe’s first design
Did you know Belbe was originally set to have card appear in the Nemesis expansion? R&D senior designer Mike Elliot, who designed the card, has said there were concerns regarding the card’s stealing ability would bleed into black’s slice of the color pie. There were also objections to there being a monoblack Elf.
Now, as for the card’s ability, at the time there was only one other black card that allowed you to ‘gain control of target creature’ and that was Infernal Denizen. Since then, there have only been four other black cards that have ‘gain control of target creature’.
As for the card’s color, a monoblack Elf Spellshaper was included in Nemesis so I don’t know what the problem was. Of course, the next time monoblack elves would be seen would be in Lorwyn. Now, in Magic history, all Zombie Elf creatures have been black-green. The first being Llanowar Dead in Apocalypse a few sets after Nemesis.
---
Mike Elliot’s design was as such:
Belbe, Phyrexian Ambassador 2BB Creature - Elf Legend 2/2 T, Sacrifice a black creature: You gain control of target creature as long as CARDNAME remains in play."
I decided to give it a slight tweak by changing the mana cost to black-green rather than monoblack, make it a Zombie Elf Legend, and updated the wording.
