And just like that she is pushing Butch off the boat. She did not want to deal with this right now. Looking back at the others in the boat..--

Now that Light has himself established, there is nothing stopping him from testing the limits of the Death Note. He is almost certain that the notebook still has some power, even in Solitude. It has to. It is likely that writing a name will still kill that person like it normally would; the only setback is whether or not the death itself is permanent.

If deaths in Solitude are only temporary, Light will simply have to run more tests to know just how much power it has compared to the goat deities of this realm. But that is for another time. For now, and most importantly, he needs to test whether or not the heart attack rule can still be used.

Finding a suitable guinea pig was laughably easy as well. A certain “ruff” he found fits the criteria perfectly: a criminal, a brute, violent and unpredictable. If the Death Note only kills him temporarily, then it will be, at the very least, a nice break from the monster. If it’s permanent...Light can know for certain that the world will be much better without him.

All he has to do is wait.

It's a little late, and he's pretty sure after all the shit Auntie probably doesn't want anything from him but that wasn't stopping Butch. Before even making it to her door, Auntie could probably see a giant jet-stream blast of dark green light dash away from her home and once she opened her door she'd be greeted with a basket full of microwave burritos and a shitty card. Inside said card was his ever shitty chicken scratch handwriting stating 'Im sorry ma' with a snail drawn at the bottom, and a 'Happy ma's day' written beneath the snail.

She sees the stream of dark green zipping away in the sky, and she feels her chest tighten.

“Butch...”

She was surprised he’d been outside her home at all, and even more so that he’d left gifts on the front porch. The basket makes her smile--yes, only Butch would gift her something like this..still, it was loved and appreciated--but the card...

The card reduces her to tears. A hand is brought up to cover her mouth as they build up and spill over, but behind her hand she is still smiling. For the longest time, Butch refused to acknowledge her as a mother figure, unlike Brick and Boomer. She’d never understood why, as she’d never been given a reason, but she’d accepted it even still, and had stepped away to give him space. Sometimes, people just..didn’t want some lady with no blood ties to act like she was related to them..

This card, however, seemed to state that he’d come to accept her, now. Truly, such a message was the best gift he could have given her.
