Xoia Vietnamese Eats: The Hipster vs. The Foodie
Echo Park embraces some tasty food spots that some may claim the food is so-so... cuz, um, ya know, the hipsters just go there because other hipsters go there?! A.K.A Brite Spot, don't waste your time with anything there - (atmosphere kinda rad, food terrible, too much $$$).
What is this food racist poppycock!? With new eateries popping up all over the East L.A., we tend to overlook some of those OG spots like Xoia that really know what they are doing. Stop listening to "what they say" because "hipster" or not, you may be missing out on some serious eats!
This Echo Park Vietnamese spot fuses American and Mexican influence in their menu and is quite mind-blowing on the favor factor with dishes like the pungent Mi Quang Pork Tacos marinated in paprika and shallot spiced pork or the ultra satisfying app you can eat as a main dish, Banh Xeo or Vietnamese Crepes!! So brilliant.
This crepe shown below, comes with perfectly cooked marinated chicken and shrimp inside with sprouts, mint leaves, and lettuce on the side. Just cut and wrap a bit of the crepe inside your lettuce with mint and douce into the fresh and creamy peanut sauce!!! Healthy with a bit of naughty and so much going on in your mouth~ Everything on this plate is so crispy and fresh I just can't get enough! Indochine also has a great version of this dish in Atwater Village - double yum.
You MUST wash it all down with Xoia's housemade Mint Limeade Soda or my fav, the Lychee Iced Green Tea with real lychees chopped roughly and floating throughout. Makes you feel like you're on vacation without extra sugars added! YAY!
Whether you are in Echo Park for the scene, the food, or you are super hungry and cruising through, stop in at Xoia for something off the cuff and memorable. Hipsters, foodies, and people who just like to eat good food welcome!! Stop being a snob and just do it.
To Your Viet-Belly and Mine,
Lauren
