“Hey Ma, you got some time to talk?” Dean asked, knocking on her office door.
It was towards the end of the day, and Dean had spent most of today psyching herself up for even beginning to approach this discussion.

[text] Hey kiddo. Come to my office when you get a chance.

It did take him a few hours because he was in the middle of paperwork, but by mid-afternoon, he was rapping on Mary’s doorframe, poking his head in the open space.
“What’s up, Ma?”
Most days, Dean could remember his medication. Most days his lingering brain damage wasn’t even noticeable. It had been a rough week and a half though and he was exhausted from all the training, all the paperwork, all the demanded attention from it felt like everyone.
So he might have missed a few doses, it was no big deal. At least it wasn’t until his legs went out from under him as he rose from his desk, forehead cracking on the edge as he crumpled to the ground in stunned disbelief about just how he’d got there.
His head felt hot, and when he reached up, his fingers came away red and sticky with fresh blood that quickly made a mess of his face.
The noises that welled up in him was bitter at best and tinged with a muffled fuck as he tried to keep the bleeding under control and figure out when his legs were going to listen to him again.
[text: De] Hey baby girl. Can you come to my quarters? I have an idea for how to spend your birthday.
Dean made a soft sound at the text. She’d honestly forgotten her birthday was today.
Not like she was getting anything done at work anyway. She packed up her stuff and clocked out for the day, heading to the personnel quarters and to her mom’s living space, knocking at the door lightly.
Coming out had been a relief, but it was mostly the same thing every day. Same clothes, same work, same name.
Nickname: Baby bear (leftover from before her 'death'), kiddo, De
Give my muse a nickname. They will tell yours whether they’ll let you call them that or not.
“I’m gonna be thirty in two weeks, Ma. Can Kiddo go?”
He’s not gonna push Baby Bear
-shoves a pair of gloves in Dean’s mouth-
Shove something in my Muse’s mouth.
Dean looks personally offended on a deep level as he removes the gloves.“Where have those been?” he all but demands, horrified.
Tell Dean something he needs to hear: It's not your fault I left, and it didn't mean I didn't love you. You and Sammy were my whole world. Don't ever doubt that I loved you then, or that I love you now.
Tell my muse something they need to hear.
Dean is just looking a little gobsmacked and raw around the edges, and he’s quiet the rest of the day.
