LYDIA MARTIN WAS relishing in the beauty that was LOS ANGELES, enjoying the shopping and the food. the redhead's roommate had convinced her to AT LEAST become a vegetarian. which was why she was coming out of the store with a bag full of beautiful vegetables, fresh and ready to make a beautiful meal. using the self-checkout, lydia tried to pack EVERYTHING IN ONE BAG. little did she know the strap was starting to tear as she walked through the parking lot. suddenly it snapped off her shoulder, thankfully none of the vegetables budged, only the milk which splattered everywhere. the milk managed to hit someone else in the same vicinity. cheeks rose with color as she looked towards them, “oh---my---gosh--- are you okay ?? i am SO sorry !!”

"You're standing close for someone who doesn't know me." Blackavar's voice was low and steady as he casually adjusted the strap of his worn backpack, scarred knuckles catching the light. "Keep your distance. I've had enough crowding for one lifetime." He leaned against the wall, the buzz of flickering fluorescent lights overhead keeping him on edge. "I'm not here for trouble," he added, almost to himself. "But, it's got a way of finding me."

"You think you're better than me, don't you?" Billy's voice cut through the quiet room. He was looking out the window with an almost predatory focus. He didn't want to look at her. "You think you can just say the right things to keep me quiet, and then you can bury what's in you. Say it. Tell me I'm wrong." He wanted to shove that lie right back down her throat. He was angry, and he wasn't sure why. He'd offered to care about Tara. For her. Only to be told by Tara that Sam hadn't liked the idea. If it was true, then it meant someone wasn't good enough. It had to be him, didn't it? It was always him, he was always the weak link in every family. "My own flesh and blood, playing hero."

"I was starting to think you wouldn't show." Billy said quietly. The party had dulled down now and he was tipsy enough to be keeping a poorer check on his mouth than usual. "What kept you; traffic, or second thoughts?" He slowly turned his head to look her over. "I'm glad you came. Not that I'd ever say that out loud, so don't get used to it." He crinkled his nose, smiling a little at his own luck, and self-inflicted defiance of it.

"What? What true colours? I just..." He trailed off, following after her knowing he needed to talk to her, even if he didn't know what he wanted to say or how to say it. "I think..." he sighed, he just had to say it, he could clarify after. "I think you're the fox cub. And, and I need to find a way to help you because...because foxes won't ask for help, and that's when they need it the most. A very smart woman told that to me, and I think it's true for the fox, and I think if I don't do something, that you're both in...in great danger." @xtinyslip

"If I didn't know better, I'd say you were looking for me." Jake raised his brows before looking away out into the dark of the night. He'd gone for a walk in the middle of the night, something he did often when he couldn't sleep. "What are you doing out this far? Don't tell me you're trying to see every corner of the city. Even I only do that because it's part of the job description."

Billy's nose crinkled, face like thunder as he deliberately kept himself facing away from her. "It's nothing." he muttered, a slow and delicate hand going to his cheek to brush over the edge of his injury. "I'm fine. Don't make it a thing." He tried to leave it there, but, the silence between them pressed on him and was unable to hold under it. "And before you start, it had nothing to do with him. He's not...He's not the problem, alright? So, don't even go there." He glanced over at her quickly before retreating back to the safety of the ground. "It's not a big deal. Just leave it."
