So apparently in the original script (cut scenes?) Xunfeng sees Danyin and goes "Who is that woman?"

And having finished episode 31, I'm now dead certain that this actually happens before the battle starts.

Danyin's there in front of all the soldiers, and she's clearly being framed as someone important. Visually she's getting the same treatment as Changheng, as the head of a legion, but Xunfeng's never seen her before and he must be at least familiar with some of the Shuiyuntian forces, he's fought them before.

So yeah, I think that the intention was for him to see her first on the battlefield here. love at first sight obviously

i think xunfeng loosing his memory has the greatest potential because: 1) your brother whom you want to kill now loves you; 2) your sister-in-law is a pesty fairy, which you hate; 3) you are married to your mortal enemy (changheng).

ok but this is already a 20k fic in my mind which i won't write because literally nobody is into this pairing, but let me tell you a bit about it!

xunfeng loses his memory battling a spirit during a mission in a snowy field with changheng, then he wakes up while changheng is taking care of him and starts a fight

the only way changheng can calm him down is accepting to go back to cangyan sea in immortal-binding chains. xunfeng is so pleased with himself for having captured the moon tribe's greatest enemy and expects to receive great honors, but when he arrives he finds his scary brother, who has retaken possession of the throne, who just goes with the dumbest face 'why did you chain changheng???'

and then changheng has to pretend to just be a good friend for like two months until xunfeng falls all over again and understands on his own that they were lovers

'were we lovers?' 'yes' 'were we hiding it?' 'not really, because people from the moon tribe and the fairies can be together now' 'so everybody now also knows i like men?' 'well yes'

and changheng just doesn't want to tell him they are married yet, because he doesn't think it's still valid if this version of xunfeng hasn't consented to it

Xunfeng's shitty plans are not working (yay!) but at what cost?

XF: Moon Supreme, you can't go on this date. Give her up already, she's a disgrace! Because of her the cursed army can't come home, she should be punished, not cherished

Dongfang Qingcang: Nonsense. She's awesome and everything good. Not only I'm going on this date but I'll also marry her. Plus I'M to blame for not breaking the soldiers' curse, so I'll take the Bone Devouring Spikes which will magically torture me every night as punishment, sounds good?

XF: PLEASE DON'T

DFQC: Good, it's settled, then

*DFQC takes the punishment and belatedly proceeds to his date*

*After XL convinces DFQC he can't stop her*

XF: ...Yes, here. Don't you dare drink it!

XL: Of course not, you would know. Anyway, thanks, now excuse me, gotta go to the cave
