Switching Gears: What if Yadu accepted Yayati's offer to swap their ages? (In that case, Yadu would actually get to inherit the throne, no curses, no banishments, and there would probably be no mainstream Kuru dynasty... So my question is, what would this AU divergence mean for the young characters of Mahabharata - the Pandavas, Kauravas, Krishna and Co.?)

Tongue-in-cheek answer: Well, it no longer means that the Pandava vs Kaurava conflict matters, because Krishna, as descendant of Yadu, is officially in the running for the throne and can obviously run circles around everyone else. (And tbh, would probably be a more clever/brave/kind contender than anyone else anyway.)

Slightly more serious: Truthfully, I think the lineages would look so different that it wouldn’t even matter. Yadu was the eldest son of the Chandravanshis, and so presumably he and his descendants would inherit everything (so yes, Balarama and/or Krishna probably would rightfully be in charge of everything assuming that everyone had the same amount of kids and birth order). But even otherwise, the inheritence is so weird for these people--you can say, Shantanu coming to the throne when he isn’t supposed to, and the multiple unexpected heirs, which might even mean that half the main characters might not even exist. (Is Puru even going to have as many kids now that he’s not the new King? Do Dushyanta and Shakuntala even meet if he’s not a ruler? etc. etc.)

Posting a Burmese yadu today. At least, that's what Wikipedia calls it on the list of poetry formats. I wanted to work through different ones that I found interesting, and this one is one of my favorites! It uses a climbing rhyme scheme, and it's very fun to play with.

Four syllabus per line. The 3rd syllable on the 2nd line and the 2nd syllable on the third rhyme with the first line. You repeat that scheme halfway through with the next rhyme. Sometimes, the rigid structures are fun!

Murmured by Lamplight

Winter is here;

When the fear comes.

You, near me, warm,

Cruciform, splayed,

Clothes shorn, marks inlaid.

Fingers on chest,

My headrest there.

Undressed, exposed

Our proposed time.

Eyes closed, hearts will rhyme.
